ABOUT ME

Hi, name is Sébastien Lalonde, 27 years old, originally from Montréal, Québec, but now living in Toronto, Ontario (Canada). I've been involved in CouchSurfing for more than three years now, having started while on a student exchange in Brussels, Belgium.
I'd describe myself as a curious, open-minded person, someone that loves to learn and discuss about practically everything. I think I know how to listen, something that is not enough valorised today (in my opinion).
Beyond that, I'm a calm, relaxed person, but I really do enjoy fooling around, laughing and partying. I just don't like to be too serious or stressed, so I'm really not the one who is going to impose that on others.
PHILOSOPHY
"Le fort fait ses événements, le faible subit ceux que la destinée lui impose" - Alfred de Vigny
In life, you HAVE to take initiatives, risks, you gotta provoke things; there are so many things you'll probably miss if you stay in your corner and wait for something to happen or somebody else to do something for you...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I think that one of the main things I can bring to this whole project is my curiosity and my will to learn about others and tell them about me, my origins and my ideas.
I love travelling and having people over but I recently had to move away from my hometown for work and I am still learning to discover my adoptive city, Toronto. As I live outside of the downtown core and don't know the city quite well yet it is a bit though for me to currently host, however once every couple weeks I have a few days off in a row so don't hesitate to write me and we'll see if we can make work something out!
Also, I am always available for a coffee, tea or drinks :)
Interests
From International Relations to European Union construction, national politics and political philosophy, almost everything related to politics is of course of big interest to me, but I'm also really interested in philosophy (especially nietzschean philosophy, but I'm always hungry to discover new philosophers and their doctrine) and litterature.
Cinema is something I really love too, I'm always ready to watch movies of all type, from "mainstream" to experimental ones, and discuss them (I really do believe that analysing and discussing a movie should be an essential part of the process of seeing it, since a movie ALWAYS is telling something).
Other interests are cultural, from history and national, local cultures to languages, I really like to share experiences with people from different backgrounds and learn from them.
And finally, I love everything related to sport and fitness, whether it's about making some or just watching or reading about it, plus everything that has to do with nature (hiking, camping, kayaking).

Music, Movies, and Books
I've got a lot of favourite movies, but to say a few : "Fight club", "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind", "Sin City" and "Happy Gilmore" (yeah, I know ;)).
I read a lot of different things, mostly online news article (love The Guardian (UK) and Foreign Affairs for international-issues related opinion pièces). As far as books go, I read novels here and there as well as littérature classics when I have the patience for it.
