Overview
About Me
I'm a sociology student living in Paris since September 2016. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey!
I love making and listening to music, taking trains, going to places I don’t know, sunny days, reading and writing, jam sessions and concerts.
We gotta turn as many strangers as possible into friends. I’m both into deep AND silly conversations about life on earth - or on Mars.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Unexpected is good.
Interests
For almost two years now I've been volunteering in a student's association organizing cultural activities with immigrants in Paris.
I'm super interested in documentaries, both filmmaking and production. Currently looking for an internship in production and trying to film a bunch of stuff on my small shitty camera haha
Music, Movies, and Books
First things first : I definitely wouldn’t be the person I am today without music. It’s inherent to my life really, got me through a lot, taught me a lot, got me making so many good friends, made me dance when I’m not even drunk! I’m mainly into rock/ alternative, hip hop and funk music. But I’m really open to anything, from jazz to traditional.. Some of my all time favs though : Björk, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Queens of the Stone Age, Mos Def, Jill Scott, Dream Theater.
I feel like I still have a lot to go in the field of movies but there is this one movie that touches me the most since I was a child, The Big Blue by Luc Besson. My favorite color is also blue.
I really like to read poetry (and sometimes write), mainly in my native language Turkish. I write mostly when I reaaally feel the urge to, even at 3am on a Tuesday night. I’d love to become a more consistent reader, but what I do for now is to start reading something, not finish it, start another and so on. To give a sense of this; a spanish independent magazine about female revolutionary battles (understanding like half of it haha), a sociological study called Outsiders, Upside-Down by Eduardo Galeano, a compilation of Leonard Cohen poems..
+ currently trying to compose songs on a keyboard.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Watching the sunrise on the beach with people I love : checking the shape of the clouds every five minutes, feeling more and more of the sun on my skin.
Pushing a friend in a supermarket trolley at 5am around a lake in suburban Paris : contemplating sleeping swans and making up stories about trash cans while The Night Comes Down by Queen plays in the background.
Teach, Learn, Share
I play the flute, ukulele, piano and sing. I mostly sing in English but would also like to share some Turkish music that I love. I try to busk as much as I can wherever I go, so feel free to join me on a mini concert on the street :)
