About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Hello, fellow budget travelers of the world! As seasonal hosts and traveling guests, we are ready to give it a go
ABOUT ME
Erin and I both have decided to prioritize living environmentally sustainable and healthy, adventurous lifestyles. Between summers in Alaska and winters in the lower 48 states, we strive to find areas of incredible natural beauty in which to reside for months at a time.
We moved to Sedona in early January 2010, hosted about a dozen guests, and drove back to Alaska in May to work geology jobs at remote camps. We had a great time hiking and visiting with our guests in the red-rock country of northern AZ.
PHILOSOPHY
I try to live my life in the moment. Dwelling on the past and worrying about the future too much can create undesirable negativity.
My philosophy is really simple - Eat right, get regular exercise, fight for what you believe is right, and help improve the lives of others.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Erin and I had an amazing experience hosting guests in Sedona while we had a couch, and we intend to host guests next summer (2011) at our property in McCarthy, Alaska.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Erin and I participated as hosts for about five and a half months in Sedona, AZ - this was our first experience with Couch Surfing, and we have not yet surfed a couch.
We have both stayed at hostels around the world. The smaller privately owned hostels are my personal favorite - I've met so many friends at the little neighborhood hostels, and I feel that Couch surfing could provide a similar layed back experience for guests.
Interests
We both live to hike - anything from short day hikes to long multi-day backpacking trips.
Mountain biking is another passion of mine - the trails in Sedona are among the most challenging and beautiful in the US.
Other interests include geology, renewable energy, health foods, art, and playing the cello

Music, Movies, and Books
The list is long - but as hosts or guests we are thrilled to talk about our love of music, great reads, and sweet movies.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Lets talk when we meet. I'll brew some coffee and / or depending upon the time of day, maybe buy you a tall cold one?
It's great how the amazing things we see and do are what makes life interesting!
Teach, Learn, Share
Photos galore. Where we've been, things we saw and people we met that changed our lives.
My practical knowledge is largely acquired from trial and error. I find it therapeutic to talk about what worked, and what didn't work out so well in life.
Living in the Alaska bush, off the grid (camping for an extended amount of time) is an example of our own personal knowledge developed through trial and error.
