Overview
About Me
Hello! My name is Selden and I'm a musician. Mainly I play guitar and sing and rap but I also play drums. I'm also an English major at UC Berkeley, interested in creative writing. Even though I currently live in NorCal, I hail from and will almost certainly be returning to SoCal once I graduate. I surf, SCUBA dive, climb, exercise and travel.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I travel pretty frequently, and I love staying in youth hostels, because, whether domestically or internationally, it's almost always a good time. You get to meet people who are on the same page as you, and therefore you've always got something to talk about. I've just joined Couchsurfing.com, but I'm thinking it will be similar: a community of like-minded people who want to help each other see the world.

Music, Movies, and Books
I will never get over my adolescent obsession with Nirvana, but recently I've been getting into older stuff, like Richie Havens and Paul Simon. I miss plain rock bands like the Stones and the Doors, but I also like reggae-ska-punk, everything from Sublime to the Germs to Dead Kennedys. Neil Young is a god, but when it comes to rap Eminem and Biggie are where it's at, though as far as modern stuff Hopsin is really the only rapper I consistently enjoy. Bo Burnham is a genius and so is Tim Minchin.
I watch too many movies to really narrow down any sort of list. I am a big Tarantino fan but I swear to God it's not because of the violence, he's brilliant when it comes to writing dialogue and that's why he should be remembered.
I'm a big Shakespeare fan but I also love comics, or "graphic novels" if you want to be all highbrow about it. Neil Gaiman's Sandman is one of the best things I've ever read, period, and pretty much anything by Alan Moore is incredible. I love Emily Dickinson's poetry and if you're looking for a lesser known good read you should check out Tapping the Source by Kem Nunn.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Ran with the bulls.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'd love to play music with and/or for you, or even give you guitar/drum lessons. I can also show you some fantastic poetry, or maybe we could go climbing/hiking together. This all depends on where we are, of course, but I can give you surf lessons. I can't certify SCUBA divers because I'm not an instructor, but I'd love to dive with you. I'm in the process of learning Spanish so it would be fun practicing together.
