About Me

I just turned 36, and as an adult I've never traveled outside of the US. As a child and an army brat, we moved all over and visited all over. I want to do this now in small manageable steps, beginning with Ireland. I work as a systems administrator with a small non-profit, and I want to travel while I'm still young at heart.

I have never had a facebook, google+, or the like so unfortunately I cannot verify in that way, but I am real. I am willing to skype or however. I am a very private person and I do not like putting my real life online, but I will be willing to establish any sort of communication that you will need for creating trust. This couch surfing culture (yes I recognize it as a culture, it's more than just cheap rent) is fascinating and I would love to have a small taste. As Reddit suggests, AMA, Ask Me Anything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am going to a seminar in Ireland, and plan on arriving early and leaving late in order to do some sight seeing, hanging with the locals, and experiencing all the "real sights" with real people who live there. I don't mind the tourist attractions but the interesting not so well known attractions is what drives me. I'd rather have the amazing pub on the corner than the one smack dab in tourist central. Share them with me! Don't let me leave empty handed. ^_^

Interests

I am a nerd, and love everything nerdish. I am a tech, it's what I do, and what I enjoy.

I'm a gamer, a language enthusiast, an rpger, and egad's... a woman, more likely to be seen as one of the guys and not afraid of a little work and rolling up my sleeve.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am very eclectic when it comes to music, I am pretty much all over the place. From soundtracks to industrial to K-pop and J-rock to Broadway and 70s rock.

I live on the BBC Channel, I hope that shows how much I enjoy the Irish/English Culture. Currently watching the Fall, and Orphan Black, and others.

Currently reading, a book about the history of salt. I know it sounds boring but it couldn't be further from the truth. It's amazing how everything is reliant and was reliant upon salt, it was used as currency and it changed everything. It's so odd that something so minute was quite literally responsible for the rise and fall of many empires. It's fascinating.

You can wake up now. lol As I'm sure I've put you to sleep.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hoping this will be the trip that I accomplish that "something Amazing"! But an interesting thing was I lived in Germany when it was still East and West, Traveling between the two countries was an adventure as a child. I remember it being so Prussian, and my father had to show our papers when we were traveling all the time. It was fun.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach me anything, I will do the return in kind. I'm open-minded and would like to experience it all. Will you share with me?

I had hosted two guys before before, sort of. They were two guys from canada that were traveling down through the us and across the country. I knew them both from the website, Find Your Geek. When they arrived in New York, they didn't have plans or have anywhere to stay the night, and unfortunately or fortunately I did not have the space for them. So I booked and paid for a hotel room. I couldn't let my friends (even though that was the first time I met them) be homeless in NYC. That's crazy and it was the hottest time of the year, even at night it was in the 80s. I sent them friend requests for recommendations/references but they haven't been on this site in four years. LoL Good guys though.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My awesome personality. I can bring some sweets from America or anything you'd like, and I am a wonderful guest and friend and I hope to share that with you.
