Overview
About Me
I am a biologist currently studying Life Sciences at the National University of Singapore. I am interested in all things biology related, especially that in the health sciences, such as neurology and cardiology. My goal is to become a medical doctor in the near future.
Outside the world of bacteria, viruses, and all things microscopic, I would say that I'm a rather sporty person. I am proud to say that I am a rock climber, and have been ascending heights for the past 5 years! I enjoy the thrill of challenging myself on difficult routes, using the correct techniques to reach the top most effortlessly, and of course enjoying the view from the top. I also started running as part of my 2015 New Year's Resolution, and though I still tell others that I realllllly dislike the process of running, I can't deny that the post-run high (endorphins!) are extremely addictive. Swimming and cycling are also activities that I do on a regular basis, and I would say that my bike is one of my best buys to date!
As a typical Singaporean, I looooove to eat good food and to seek them out! My brothers and I often go on mini food hunts, and every time we try something new/delicious, we'll try to deconstruct it so that we can replicate them at home. So far, we've manage to recreate our own versions of Japanese curry, gyudon, okonomiyaki, jiaozi (dumplings), taro and yam dessert, sesame paste noodles, and so much more that we think are better than what we can get outside!
I enjoy learning. I read quite extensively, not just about biology, but also in topics ranging from astronomy to sociology to history and politics. I may not be a very outspoken person, but I enjoy exchanging knowledge and views with people who have similar interests. Many people have told me that I look unapproachable when I'm not smiling, but feel free to strike a conversation with me! (I'm pretty friendly!)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I was on a trip to Taiwan in 2012, I stayed in a minus (hostel ran by locals) and experienced true hospitality and made valuable, lasting friendships with the host and other travellers from all over the world. That was when I truly felt the difference between travelling and touring. Spending time with the local hosts, listening to their stories, and exploring places not written in guidebooks allowed me to experience the country and its cultures from the perspective of someone who has spent most of his/her life there. This is entirely different from looking at a new environment from a tour bus.
Then, my brothers were already on CouchSurfing, and have surfed with a few hosts on their trip to Japan. They shared with me all the exciting adventures they went on with their hosts, the unique occupations their hosts had, and how valuable the newly made friendships were to them. I was tempted to join CouchSurfing there and then, but I was still quite young, so I decided to wait.
Now, I'm about to embark on my first trip to the United States, and what better place and time to start my CouchSurfing journey there and now? I would love to meet new friends from this part of the world I've never been to before, and I want to share with more about my country, our cultures, and exchange interesting tidbits of anything under the sun with anyone that is interested and willing to listen.
Though I can't host now, I hope to surf, and meet everyone who has something to share.

LISTEN
Sodagreen, Deserts Chang, HUSH
I generally listen to any music I find nice and catchy, but these are the artists I listen to the most!
I listen to Freakonomics too!
WATCH
Animation movies (Finding Nemo, Ice Age, Lilo & Stitch etc), Harry Potter, Music and Lyrics, Jack Reacher, Independence Day, and many more!
The Big Bang Theory and Stranger Things are some of the shows that I watch, and I'm hoping to catch up on House of Cards, OITNB, and Making a Murderer.
I watch documentaries from Discovery Channel, History Channel and NOVA quite a lot, and get new updates about anything and everything from TED talks as well!
READ
Anything Dan Brown, and anything non-fiction. Wikipedia and Quora are also my entertainment/ information sources, and I always feel smarter after reading them!
Teach, Learn, Share
If there's anything you're willing to share, I'm willing to listen. If I have anything to share, I will teach freely. If there's something we don't know, we can learn together.
