About Me

Hello!!! My name is Selma! I’m 26 years old and I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. I currently live in North Carolina and I work as a writer for IBM. I am a pretty cheerful person that likes to wander around new places. I love diversity, different cultures, and all kinds of food. If you can make me laugh, you'll probably gain a friend for life. Oh, and I don’t snore!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to experience the places that I travel through the eyes of the locals. That's what makes Couchsurfing so unique. Couchsurfers are generally open-minded, fun, insightful people who generously share their knowledge (and their couches). I tend to get the best travel advice from fellow couchsurfers too! It is amazing to be a part of such a diverse and friendly community.

Interests

I obviously love to travel. What I love about it is exploring the food, the culture, and the people. I judge based on energy, not appearances (which goes for people and places). I like meeting people that can make me laugh, teach me something, or introduce me to new things.

I love live music (especially jazz), and I love to write (it is my profession and hobby). I do love to dance, but I'm not a fan of clubs (too many people, too loud). I love to sing, but I'm definitely not a singer (but I've been told I've got the look lol).

And I love movies - especially going to the theatre. I'm not sure why I do - could be because I love popcorn or because it's a place where people are forced to get off their phones and actually experience something as a collective.

I began rockclimbing last year and I have fallen head over heels for it. I have rough, calloused hands, but that's the price of being spider(wo)man. If you're a rock climber, I would LOVE to go climbing with you. I am belay certified too!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: hiphop, r&b, jazz, rock, edm, classical music, (Björk, Lana Del Ray, A Tribe Called Quest, Odesza, Fugees, Nujabes, Coldplay, Ludovico Eunadi, etc.)

Movies: anything Terrantino and Guy Richie. (I'll watch anything with Will Smith as well.)
Movies I've rewatched numerous times: White Chicks, Pulp Fiction, Snatch, Rock and Rollers, Hitch, Harry Potter, Green Street Hooligans, Forrest Gump, etc.

Books: Austen, brönte, 1984, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed Mt. Fuji. :) I climbed Machu Picchu. I moved by myself to a country where I knew no one and didn’t speak the language (and thrived).

Teach, Learn, Share

Have you ever heard of soul types? There are seven roles that the soul can assume in our lifetime: the Server, the Artisan, the Warrior, the Scholar, the Sage, the Priest, and the King.

I am the Sage. Here is a descriptor of the Sage soul type:
"The great communicator. Able to express the higher mental faculties of wisdom, beauty, love, harmony, and philosophy. This is the story-doer type, who likes to act out and dramatize their thoughts through art, music, teaching, salesmanship, or entertainment. They enjoy playing to an audience. "

I find that discovering your soul type allows us to more fully understand our roles in life and how to achieve success and happiness.

This is something I can share and teach to other couch surfers.

I am constantly reading and learning new things, and I love it when someone teaches me something meaningful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my humor, my intellect, and my snacks (if I haven't eaten them all yet). I am an extroverted introvert, so I love to spend time with people and make them laugh, but I also am completely comfortable being by myself.
I come from a very diverse background and I've had so many experiences traveling, so if it's stories you want, I've got enough to last a whole trip. :)
