About Me

CURRENT MISSION

...

ABOUT ME

I have never been extreme in any way and i´m a quiet person which might make me a bit boring. So usually no excessive party nights or something similar, just hanging out. I think i´m also getting a bit old...

Still, i like my life the way it is. I have the feeling of being more or less free from any prejudices and necessities and that i don´t take life serious.

Recently, i have been way too busy with my diploma thesis, but i´m working on finding more time for myself and others.

Update June 2012: Reading this four years later makes me smile! I still agree with this description of me, still boring, still getting old, still trying to be neutral, still busy with my study nerding (Diploma thesis turned into a PhD thesis).

Update March 2019: This description still somehow fits. My PhD is finished and I work as a scientist in Vienna now.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I´m a user of this platform, trying to host people and surfing couches myself once in a while.

Interests

Since i am a biologist, i like more or less everything related to life, nature and environment without being nerdy about it. But i am more than happy to get new inputs from any other field of interests.

Besides that there are no hobbies or other strong interests. Like most people I isten to a bit of music, also enjoy watching a movie once i a while, spend way too much time in front of the computer and need nice people around me to feel comfortable.

Update June 2012: During my last four years here in Tromsø I learned to appreciate telemark and cross country skiing trips. I'm often going camping in winter, and often visit various cabins over the weekends in summer. Recently I bought a sailboat which should be ready to sail any month, so I guess that'll be a hobby of mine during future summers.

Update March 2019: The new sailing boat hobby mentioned above became a lifestyle for a while and I lived in that boat for three years, one year cruising from Tromsö to the Carribbean. I now live in Vienna and spend most weekdays working and most weekends skiing or hiking in the mountains.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm just hanging out, is there something wrong with this? Sorry for not doing amazing things...

Update June 2012: In retrospective I think I did see some interesting things, or some things others might find interesting. For instance, I've been hanging out in Mombasa during my civil service, traveled Indonesia and Thailand after that, and spent the last four summers and parts of the winters on Spitsbergen. If you want to hear more, come and visit!

Update June 2019: I sailed around the Atlantic ocean, see: sykiwi.blogspot.com

Teach, Learn, Share

I became quite good in ski touring over the years. Since I actively educate myself in avalanche stuff, I could for instance teach you something about that?
