About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Looking for sanity - it wasn't under the couch or in the freezer!

ABOUT ME

I'm rather more cynical than the standard couchsurfing philosophy, but please don't take that to mean hateful or bitter.
I studied literature in college, and had an awesome time with it. Since then I spend about a third of my time roaming, a third working in a pretty excellent bakery, and a third unemployed and debating what to do next. I'm moving to New Orleans now, and hope simply to settle down fresh.

PHILOSOPHY

"What I claim is to live to the full the contradiction of my time, which may well make sarcasm the condition of truth." - Roland Barthes

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't had a chance to give back yet! But help me get to New Orleans, and I promise a couch for you and many many others.

Interests

Books are a huge passion for me, primarily fiction. Any fiction, all fiction!
Really, the experience cuIture - works thereof, and local - is what I live for.
I quite enjoy hiking and running, though I'm terrible at the latter.
Most fundamentally, I like thinking and learning. I try to do both as much as I can!

Music, Movies, and Books

My all-time favorite authors are Virginia Woolf, Thomas Pynchon, and David Foster Wallace. In non-fiction, On Food and Cooking is a simply amazing book.
Movies I'm pretty indiscriminate about enjoying, but Charlie Kaufman is the tip of the top!
My music taste is pretty varied - lately, my favorite bands have been Andrew Bird, Portishead, X-Ray Spex, and the Modern Lovers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nothing compared with what's to come, I hope.

Teach, Learn, Share

I roast my own coffee, brew my own beer, bake my own bread, and have recently been raising chickens. Hey, I might survive the collapse!

Countries I’ve Visited
