ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Sergi What can I say? Basically, at present times I am developing my PhD research on "green economy" (a bit late perhaps as I am already 37, but...). According to the official definition "green economy" is that one which fights against the "triple crunch": economic crisis, energy crisis and climate crisis. So, for this, I will be on tour for the next 6 months studying 7 cities (plus my hometown Girona) around Europe and a bit further (Arendal in Norway, Turku in Finland, Copehagen in Denmark, Birmingham in the UK, Almada in Portugal, Bologna in Italy, and Jerusalem in Israel) to see how is this green economy taking place. Why this cities? because they are leaders in climate change policies. We'll see.

A part from this, I live with my couple Emma Soy (also CS member) in a tinny little village, Vilafreser 24 people, at 15 Km from Girona, the capital of the Catalan province with the same name (and a beautiful city worth visiting if you ever hop to Barcelona, only 1h away). We grow are own vegetables, we take long walks with our dog in the forests and fields nearby, we hunt mushroms in autumn and winter, we ride our mountainbikes, we fetch our fire wood from a little parcel we are renting, and we watch FC Barcelona games with the neighbours at our little social hall. This is about it; quite relaxed as you can tell.

Else, we love traveling and the last years we've been in Ireland, Malta, USA, Sardignia, France, and we took a one month trip in our 1986 Caravelle from here to Albania, crossing 7 countries (Fr, It, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Alb.). Unfortunately we had to sell the van cause we couldn't afford the repairs any more.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have mostly participated in CS hosting people. First at my dad's home in Vilademí, and since we got togehter with Emma here in Vilferser. More than 10 different visitors since 2007. I love this project!
As guest I only have the experience of Greg from Brussels for now (great guy!! I was his first surfer as well). I expect to increase substantially my stays with others throughout my PhD tour, as I cannot afford hotels and in fact I prefer to meet and be with locals. I believe it will be as enriching or more to do this CS tour in 7 different places than the research itself.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I love Couchsurfing!! My experience, both as host and as guest have been great. It is really amazing to discover other countries through their people, and have the privilege to enjoy so much generous hospitality that is still out there. In a moment when society seems more and more accelerated, consumerist, materialist... couchsurfing is a wornderful breakthrough of fresh air and "good vibes". I'm really proud of beint part of this community.

I have a lot of work with my PhD for now, hihi.

Yet, I love cooking, so either teach some typical Spanish dish of learn from you will be great.
