Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

Love the world around me. Appreciate the good days. Eat ice cream on the bad ones to make them a little nicer...

ABOUT ME

We are pregnant!!!! Woot!
That being said, we're pretty busy with getting ready for baby Felix, he'll be here early in August 2013, and don't have a lot of time to host people. We live on our boat, and love sharing the experience with folks, just don't have a lot of time in which to do so. If you're going to be in town and want to grab a beverage and chat about boaty stuff, we'd love to hear from you! Also open to super-desperate last minute couch requests, but make no promises on availability... haha. I might be having a baby (and if that isn't a good excuse than I just don't know what is)!

We have had some incredible experiences through this site (SO MANY GREAT SURFERS!) and hope to keep meeting travelers out for drinks whenever we are able.

At the moment, I am a very proud mommy to a kitty, Sir Francis, and a really sweet puppy, Isabella. Her third birthday was on May 20th! She grew up way too quickly... Right now, I am living with my husband on our sailboat on the coast of Maine! We're both working full time, but sailing as much as possible :-)

We bought our current sailboat in July of 2010. Seabird is a Downeaster 32. If you want to know more about them, feel free to ask! We are learning all we can so that we can outfit her for a good long cruise as soon as we've saved up some money. We bought a website domain for the boat, www.sailingseabird.info, so you can read more about us and the boat on there. Also check out our liveaboard website, www.maineliveaboards.com, for more info on what it's like to live on a boat.

If you're trying to get in touch with me over the weekend, I generally won't check my e-mail so try to contact me ahead of time to get my cell #! I would love to meet up/host/give directions to cool places but not via e-mail if it's not the middle of the week! I just prefer to be contacted by phone for last minute stuff, so get in touch before you get to town and get my phone number! :-)

PHILOSOPHY

My mother once asked which was the most important thing to me: adventure, relationships, contentment, or success. I was torn between the first three, but success (in my mind) would be measured by the first three, so it instantly became irrelevant. In case you were wondering, I eventually chose contentment. A year later, I re-read that question and realized that my answer is "adventure," because with that I will always be content.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Don't have time to travel myself until I've saved up some money, but I love having visitors! We plan on traveling one day, and for now, we're hosting while we can..

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted quite a little handful of people, it's always been fun! Looking forward to meeting more people, and getting the chance to host some more on our boat! We recently participated in a CS meet-up here in Portland, ME which was lots of fun! Exploring our city and meeting lots of people to surf with in the future..

We once had 12 CSers on the boat at once.. it was a very slow sail and a lot of fun. Can't wait to re-connect with each of those people in their respective home towns! CS is truly amazing.

We find that we are always meeting people interested in living on boats! We love it! CS has turned into the most fun social networking tool there is.. Surfed only once, in Puerto Rico, and it was fantastic! Used our hosts local knowledge to secure a bus ride to the beach with a bunch of local folk.. great experience we never would have had otherwise, since all the guide books say "there is no public transport in Puerto Rico," they are so wrong!

Interessi

Dogs, books, making dresses, buildings, languages, good music, good friends. Travis (my husband) likes our cat better than our dog, and is crazy about sailing. He also loves steak and beer, while I am vegetarian and don't drink! We love each other enough to make it work ;-)Travis is a great electrician, he understands stuff I will never comprehend about wires/currents/whatever. He also has his private pilot's license with a sea plane endorsement, though he hasn't flown in years so it's out of date. His dream as a teenager was to grow up to be a sea-plane pilot in Alaska, but now I think he would rather captain a charter boat in the Caribbean... we'll see which direction we get pulled in first! ;-)

Musica, film e libri

Everything, everything, everything. Ask me. Love bluegrass and swing music more than most people my age, I think. And I own every book John Steinbeck ever wrote, though I don't think he's my favorite author anymore; I just don't know.

Our favorite author is Cap'n Fatty Goodlander, who has sailed around the world 3 times with his wife, Carolyn. They built the first boat they went around in. He writes the funniest, best books on cruising, sailing, and living aboard you'll ever read. Plus, he's crazy about his wife and he writes beautiful things about her!

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

Haven't traveled much outside the US, but waiting for the day when that can change!! We are hoping to move to Puerto Rico in the fall, so that will be an awesome experience. For now, we're loving living on our boat in Portland!

Insegna, impara, condividi

Would love to learn Spanish or Arabic, and teach English! Also would love to learn some more artsy things (dress-making?), or any type of dance, and willing to teach the little that I know..

We'll take you sailing if you take us [insert adventure here].... or, we'll take you sailing anyways!
