Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to love hosting but am no longer set up to do so. Still I believe the experience should always be educational. I hope to teach surfers about this island in exchange for the chance to learn something from you. Learning new recipes has been one of my favorites, from breakfast to lunch to cocktails.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing is an excellent way to travel even when you can't leave your own home. I prefer to go out and see the world myself but when the world comes to you with stories in tow, I am always happy to listen.

Interests

Anything in the water: paddle boarding, surfing, snorkeling, cave diving, scuba diving, canoeing. Anything in the mountains: skiing, hiking, foraging.

Music, Movies, and Books

Dr. Seuss, "Motorcycle Diaries", Vonnegut, Hemingway, live music in any genre

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cave dived in an aquifer fed underwater cave in the desert mountains of West Texas. Played frisbee in Tiananmen Square and hackey sacked on the Great Wall. Ate a snake gut. Volcano boarded in Nicaragua. Rode in an empty egg truck in Mexico, got smuggled through El Salvador. Found Darma, Buddha, Jesus and Krishna all in a cave in Bali. Surfed Impossibles, raised a child.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a old man in Northern New Mexico who still signs his signature with an X and has to get people at the bar to read his mail to him. The stories this man tells about the wilderness are out of a long gone era. The ability to meet people like this encourages me to travel and hear stories that can only be passed on by word of mouth. Imagine what you would be doing outside today if you couldn't read or write. I always thought education was the key to a sustainable world, but some of the least learned folks I know have done the most incredible things.
