About Me

Hello everyone. My name is Serenity Zhang. I was born in Guangzhou, China, I spend my first 11 years living in the heart of Guangzhou for my childhood and elementary school. I immigrated to Canada when I was 11 years old( grade 5) to Toronto. I spend the next 5 years there making some of the most wonderful memories with my besties. In 2009, my family decided to move to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan(the central part of Canada). In Sask, I finished high school, and currently finishing my Bachelor in Sociology and Social worker.

Many of my friends describe me as an outgoing and helpful person. I guess this is why i wanted to become an social worker. I wanted to help people who are suffering to have a better life and be happy like I do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couch Surfing because I heard of this from my best friend Vivian. She was the first friend I have in Canada. We met in my first elementary school in Toronto. She was the first one who approach me during recess(school play time/break). If she never did approach me, I wouldn't imagine what my childhood would be like without her. Here is a funny story when we fist encounter. She asked my if I speak Cantonese or Mandarin(different dialogue in Chinese). Of course at that time, I know very little English, So I respond her with a simply "NO" O_O HAHA. So that’s why I wanted to be on Couchsurfing, I wanted to meet different people around the world and connect with them. I wanted to become the "Vivian" to them and share my experience in a global perspective. Let's all be friends together! :)

Interests

Like I said, I'm still a full time student in the University. I have a busy life both going to school and working part time to try to survive during school time. I'm not a big fan with sport(I always get hurt from doing so. lol ;D) So when ever I have time or the money to do so, I would pack my bags and travel. I think traveling is my biggest hobbies. I've been to some place in the State and Asian country that are closes to China.

Music, Movies, and Books

For music, I like to listen to R&B, rave, hip pop, rap, K-pop. Recently I like to listen to songs with a strong bass beat. I think I was influence by my roommates who always play their music in the house. Songs like Arman Cekin - Run, Jerry Folk x ELOQ - You Know ( you can search it with Sound cloud) I'm into K -pop as well, I love their music.

I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi movies. I love the new Star Trek Series. I watched a lot of Crime solving TV series as well. Shows like Bones, Law and order SVU...etc I basically watch anything that is on Netflix lol ;D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think the most amazing thing I've done was the decision of having my beloved dog, Yuki. She is the love of my life. She's a cute miniature American Eskimo. She's white and fluffy and always making me laugh when she is around. Everyday when I come home, she would always welcome me with her cheerful big smile and come give my lots of kisses and hugs.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, both in speaking and writing. I did learn Japanese in High school for three years, I can still remember some simple phrases and from times to times I can understand a little bit when they speak slowly. I would love to be fluent in Japanese if I can. I love to watch Korean dramas, I can pick up some simple words from watching it. Learning korean would be nice I have the chance too. I can also speak some simple greeting in French, since Canada is a bilingual country( French and English)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I wish to share my experiences in Canada with them. I wanted to learn their culture through my travelling experience with my future host. I want to make more friends in different country and expand my knowledge with a global mindset.
