I am a Russian guy studying Math and in the US for 3 years. I absolutely love traveling, this is definitely my strongest passion. I began exploring the world since very young age. Before I went to primary school, my parents and I used to drive from Tver in Russia to Crimea in Ukraine every Summer, where we lived in different places from city hostels to camping tents. This was definitely my favorite times in the year. Then, during my primary and middle school years, I visited almost every single country in Europe with my parents. I especially enjoyed Switzerland with its magnificent mountains and crystal clear lakes.
When I was in high school, my sister went volunteering from Russia to Argentina where she met her future husband and father of her son. Thus, when we were visiting them I had an opportunity to travel a little bit in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay in the amazing area in the world - Iguazu waterfalls.
When I graduated from high school in Russia, I came to the US to Foothill Community College in Los Altos Hills to continue my degree here to study sciences. I am majoring in Math and Chemistry and currently planning to become a scientific researcher or start my own startup company to study ways to combat deadly diseases (such as cancer or heart disease) and and aging process. In Foothill Community College, I participate in Science internships and club activities. I am also making some money via tutoring math and science

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Music, Movies, and Books

1) Music: I love local folk music from around the world, anime music and also a lot of mainly non-mainstream stuff (Psoy Korolenko (Russia), Daniel Kahn and Painted Birds (US+Germany), A cappella ensemble Quorum (Lithuania), Max Raabe (Germany), Manu Chao (Spain+France), and many others)

2) Movies: Generally prefer non mainstream staff which touches you emotionally and makes you think. Anything by Ghibli Studio of Hayao Miyazaki from Japan (especially love "The Wind Rises", "When Marni was There", and "From up on Poppy Hill"), "Interstellar" by Christopher Nolan from the US, "Lovely Bones" by Peter Jackson from the US, cartoon "Song of the Sea" and "the Secret of Kells" by Tomm Moore from Ireland, "the Man from Earth" by Richard Schenkman from the US, "Mahabharata 2013" by Siddharth Anand Kumar from India and many many others. I also love science documentaries by BBC, Nova and Discovery.

3) Books: I don't read a lot of books, except for those assigned in college, but I still have several favorite ones. Those are "Shogun" by James Clavell from Australia, the poem "Do not Go Gentle into that Good Night" by Dylan Thomas, "Dragon" by Evgeny Schwartz from Russia, and "Unweaving the Rainbow" by Richard Dawkins from the UK.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 14 years old, my mum, dad, sister and I once traveled by ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki by ferry through Baltic Sea. Even though my parents did not allow it, I woke up during the night, and went to the deck. It was UNBELIEVABLY STUNNING. Despite strong wind, for more than an hour I was enjoying the views of the stars and being alone on the giant deck a lot. I felt like the ship was traveling through space. I definitely want to repeat this experience, but next time I am going to take 1 or 2 weeks Cargo Ship and cross Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. And I am going to observe the ocean every day I am there. I am super excited about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you or your kids attending college, I totally can help with sciences and math I have been working for more than a year as a Science and Math tutor through EOPS and Pass the Torch programs in Foothill College (about 8-10 hours a week), and built great friendships with my students
And I absolutely love both science and math and sciences themselves and teaching them.
