About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Hi there, we are a married (but fun and cool!) couple, taking a career break to travel the world. We love adventures, new foods (Jenia), technology (Sergey), photography and experiencing different cultures.
ABOUT ME
We're clean, courteous, and laid back people who are super excited to see the world and meet new friends!
We're seriously the easiest people to host.
We like long adventures - like renovating our victorian row house in Washington DC, originally built in 1897. Or traveling the world for a year.
For more on us.. visit our blog: http://www.housetolaos.com and http://www.victorianinbloom.com and also check out sergey's tumblr here: http://tumblr.stereoj.am/
PHILOSOPHY
Don't panic!
Change is inevitable,
Struggle is an option.
Life goes on.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have hosted many friends on our couch, and shared our house with roommates on and off for the last three years. We like to hang, but are mindful not to intrude. We have friends in many cities in US, so can recommend people to stay/hang out with.
As for our own traveling couch stories, there were plenty, but mostly outside of CS community.
Interests
Together we like exploring - anything from a park in a new (to us) neighborhood of DC to new (to us) countries and continents.
Jenia: I like planning and lounging (I know contradictory), watching sports, getting up early to see the sunrise. I love food -- I will eat anything once. I don't like missing out on the fun, which sometimes means that I fall asleep in a bar while insisting that I am not tired.
I am responsible for planning our adventures )
Sergey: I like tomatoes, interesting people, and good design.
I am responsible for operations on our adventures.

Music, Movies, and Books
We both really, really enjoy Mikhail Bulgakov's Master and Margarita. Sergey's personal bible is Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. We just finished watching Netflix series House of Cards -- and it was.so.good!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We have been very fortunate to have parents who took us and their life's possessions and skills to move across the ocean to a whole new culture to start new lives. That was an amazing and transformative experience for both of us, and we are still learning from that.
Teach, Learn, Share
Sergey knows lots about design and internet. Jenia can tell you about politics and interior design (at least a bit). We can talk ad nauseum about what it takes to renovate an old house, or recount our adventures from 14-month trip we took to Asia and back.
Countries I’ve Visited
Albania, Belarus, Cambodia, Canada, China, France, Georgia, Hungary, India, Israel, Japan, Laos, Macedonia, Mongolia, Morocco, Myanmar, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, Viet Nam
