About Me

CURRENT MISSION

What else but to meet new people and see new places?

ABOUT ME

I grew up playing and learning music, doing piano, singing, and oboe in youth orchestras in Boston. In college I discovered I really like programming and have been doing that ever since. I'm currently making a company with a couple fellow Oberlin grads. We're making a language learning website for Chinese and Japanese with spaced repetition learning and stroke recognition.

I generally prefer hanging out with a few close friends over going to a party, but I like to keep my experiences varied and new.

PHILOSOPHY

Let's see, I don't really have an officially thought out personal philosophy. Enjoy life, stay positive. Try not to get stuck doing the same thing, take a step back and look at things as a whole regularly.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've only used couchsurfing to surf, but I dream of one day having a large place that can accommodate at least a couple surfers at any time. Of course if anyone wants to talk about the merits and concerns of couchsurfing, feel free to send me a message.

Interests

Music, programming, cooking are the big three. Music because it's the art that fascinates me the most and I really enjoy playing. Programming because it's an endless creative puzzle, trying to build virtual tools while balancing simplicity, understandability, efficacy and efficiency, among other things. And cooking because it's like getting to play with a chemistry set every night, and then you get to eat the results. And of course, it's always a pleasure sharing that food with others.

Music, Movies, and Books

They Might Be Giants were the first band I was interested in and remain one of my favorites. I like how their music is pretty experimental. Animal Collective I also really enjoy, because they make a fascinating tapestry of sound. Other bands I like: Royksopp, Cake, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Four Tet, Ratatat, The Decemberists, Pendulum, The Books, The Unicorns, Ben Folds. Also listen to classical, video game and movie soundtracks and remixes, and sometimes musicals.

Mindgame is my favorite movie. Great visuals, very funny, and overall really great story. Kind of a weird film, but fascinating. Some other favorites: Coraline, Blade Runner, Wizard People Dear Readers.
