CURRENT MISSION

Pursuant to my dream of becoming an evil genius and ruling the world with an iron fist, I intend to visit all the best places in the world to survey my future dominion.

ABOUT ME

I like to travel in order to see new places, meet new people, get exposure to other viewpoints and other ways of life. It gives one both enjoyment and a better perspective on reality.

I do not really have high aspirations in life. Mainly I want to find a job that does not absorb too much time, so that I can have a life. My current job, as a software engineer, has me living in Venice, Italy for a few months.

I took a year off between undergraduate and grad school. I was planning to travel for a full year, but I ended up going back to the US first for my sister's wedding, and then again to work for a few months to get money to continue my travels (as well as to handle all the grad school visits and applications). Happily, I did get to finish my travels after all that, and visited central Europe and Greece.

I always prefer a nice hike on a sunny day to even a great museum. I love classical art from the masters since the renaissance. I have only found bits and pieces of modern art that I like.

I bicycle and backpack a lot, and occasionally like to rock climb, kayak, or windsurf. In the US, I also dance a lot - blues, tango, and swing mostly.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is temporary. As James once said, "you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away." I aim to enjoy life as I find it.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Whenever possible, I host travelers. Whenever possible, I stay with locals while I am traveling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with Harry in Hania on Crete and got to go to Kostas's name day party. I got to stay with Robert in Athens, and spent a couple of evenings with various people from the Athens group.

Jumped off the Nevis highwire.

Kayaked the Upper Hutt.

Hiked to L'Aiguille du Midi in the french alps.

Had my clothes freeze to me while trying to sleep on the Routebourn track in the middle of winter.

Nearly walked off a cliff in a snowstorm above Grindelwald, Switzerland (while wearing shorts and a t-shirt)...it was not snowing when I started.

Climbed all three of the tallest peaks of Mt. Olympus in one day.

Backpacked the John Muir Trail.

Bicycled from Vancouver, British Columbia to Santa Barbara, California in less than 3 weeks.
