About Me
***Latest Update***
I am back in Russia. Currently living in Moscow due to work. My profile itself firstly was made for looking a couch to surf during my Great Journey, but I guess I am finally able to participate as a host. Also I can (and I would like!) to meet fellow travelers to share some stories over some beers. I'm not that good as a tourist guide (actually I hate all those tourist traps), but I would like to talk and share experience. And obviously I can be your translator to Russian and back if you need it.
***
Hello everyone!
I am (basically) motorcycle traveller from Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
Some time ago I quit my job, pack few bags and went for round the world journey on a motorcycle having no savings at all (it doesn't mean that I am a dumpster diver, or gonna raid your fridge :) I'm working on the way whenever and wherever it's possible). You can check more info here: motolight.gortw.org
I'm pretty much "old formation" guy, I smoke, I drink, I eat meat, I know how to handle a wrench and think that the bitch of 21st century is not gluten but stress (:)) Meanwhile I absolutely don't mind people's preferences and always going okay with every person (how can someone wish to travel around the world otherwise, hahaha!). Mutual respect and politeness is a "must have" for every human being.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I like to meet different people and learn specialties of different places of the Earth. I like the idea of couch surfing because it is true way to dive into local life and to meet people not the cliche tourist way. I'm usually using "motorcyclist's couchsurfing" that's why my experience here is not that big, but I always try to look for interesting people and so far experience was amazing. Earth is already explored and we still don't flying to the stars so my journey is not about places but about people!
Interests
Do you know what's behind the corner? Me neither! Let's go find out :) I prefer not to read anything about the place where I'm going (except for security reasons) before I will get to it. I've got this idea from one traveler (and now friend of mine) whom I met in Western Sahara. It's not about ignorance, whenever I got there I start absorbing every knowledge that I can. But first impression is very exciting one and it is way more interesting when you don't have somebody's templates and opinions in your head. Sometimes it leads to quite awkward moments but it's worth it!
Music, Movies, and Books
Best Movie: World's Fastest Indian
Best book: Most of Bukowski. "History of Galaxy" by Andrey Livadniy
Music... I like different types. No matter of style, I just hear some good song and after couple of second it's inside me. Though I like more rock music but as I mentioned before - it's not the one way street, you've got to see my playlist, it's a hella various one :)
I'm also a huge fan of Fallout, especially the first two parts.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Made "Iron Butt" normative: 2000km in 28 hours on a motorcycle. Woke up at Paris, went to sleep in Brest!
Made it from Matadi (DRC) to N'Zeta (Angola), can tell you that thrilling story.
Realized that some African beers are the best of I've ever tried.
Also, it's not the thing that I'm "done", but no doubts amazing - I was lucky to meet David Woodburn, the man who traveled around the world for more than ten years and than built a house by himself and since that welcoming any stranger, giving away the kindness that world gave him before. That is what I want to do when I finally come back home.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love to help people with technical things and fixing all around.
I can tell a lot of stories about my adventures in journeys, funny differences in languages and small things (did you know that sausages in Namibia called "russian"? :)
Did you know that in French language "how are you" sounds like "sa va" which in russian language sounds like word meaning "owl". So when french-speaking guys meet each other for russian-speaking it sound something like "Chiken? - Chiken!"
Also can teach you russian language :)
Really would love to learn Spanish.
What I Can Share with Hosts
When you traveling for a long time it's not so much physical there is to share. Do you like beer? :)
But I'm always ready to share my knowledge and experience. I heard a lot of times that there is teaching talent glows somewhere deep inside me. One of the most exciting jobs that I had was teaching people how to start riding a motorcycle, felt a kind of euphoria every time.
