About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To edify others through my words, deeds, and service.

ABOUT ME

They would say I'm a traveler and and adventurer with a heart for social justice. I teach public pre-kindergarten at a Title I school, and love working with very young children. I'm an animal lover, and I have a giant dog who is universally loved. I've picked up a passable grasp of Spanish from the students and families that I work with, and would love to practice it more frequently. Living in South or Central America would be a dream come true. Friends would describe me as compassionate, adventurous, and as having a good sense of humor.

PHILOSOPHY

"Nothing Without Joy"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just went on a cross country CSing road trip with friends. I've been to a few potlucks in the Raleigh area, and am excited about beginning to host!

Interests

I love good beer, large porches, warm summer nights, beaches, mountains, plains, backpackers, cheese, good salsa (dip and dancing), pretending to garden from time to time, beards, cotton, corn on the cob, blueberries, dogs, cats, fish, playing cards, swimming, running when the mood strikes, beautiful sunsets, camping, listening to late-night bluegrass, reading, hammocks, climbing trees, live music, dancing like a crazy woman while listening to live music, practicing my Spanish, getting lost in new cities, comparing public transit, being loud, sometimes being quiet, and enjoying good conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

bluegrass, roots music, a little bit of Latin music, occasional house or electronica, and lots and lots of classic and folk rock! I also love to read, and very few books fall outside of my interests.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've driven across the country the past two summers to couch surf and visit friends. Leaving from the Grand Canyon to go to Moab, Utah I entirely unexpectedly and through no intentional plan ended up on US-163 through Monument Valley at sunset on a clear July evening. The sandstone monuments were lit a fiery orange, the sky was bluer than I'd ever seen it, and the sunlight was filtering golden through my car as I blasted John Butler Trio, jamming across the valley. I stopped beside a pair of gentlemen resting on their beat up Dodge Charger, sharing a beer and watching the sun go down. We sat together until the stars came out and I continued to my reservation at Dead Horse Bend campground a couple hours along. God reveals Himself in absolutely breathtaking ways sometimes if we just allow ourselves to get lost and take his creation in.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would consider myself an expert on young children and on educating and caring for them (being an early childhood educator). I also love to discuss and learn from people in medical and psychological fields of practice and research, as their interplay frequently affects my practice. I'm somewhat knowledgeable about the great state of North Carolina, having been raised here and attending UNC-Chapel Hill for undergrad. I know a moderate amount about dogs, and love meeting other dog lovers and appreciators. I'm eager to to learn more about the Latino culture, and love working with and learning from the families we serve in my Pre-K program. I'd love to practice my Spanish with native speakers, and would be thrilled to live in South America at some point in the future. I'm a beginning climber, and would like to meet more people who could help me improve my skills. My mother thinks I'm an excellent writer and overall nice person, but take her opinion with a grain of salt.
