About Me
UPDATE: I sold my hostel in 2021. You can still send me a message and I will contact the new owners on your behalf if you want to stay.
I own a small hostel called Pacific Tradewinds Hostel. We have a tight-knit international traveler's community atmosphere and love the couchsurfing project.
FREE 2-NIGHT STAY FOR SOLO TRAVELERS - YES! Believe it or not, we can offer 1 free bed per night to a solo traveler for a maximum of 2 nights. We particularly like interesting, experienced and adventurous travelers. These special travelers get free status when they are genuinely interested in socializing with our guests, being part of our community, and don't treat us like a free hotel.
IF YOU WANT TO STAY LONGER, we are interested to get to know you. Click "My Home" above for more information.
OUR HOSTEL IS VERY POPULAR SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SURF A FREE BED IN OUR HOSTEL, YOU WILL DEFINITELY NEED TO READ OUR HOME DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY. Click "My Home" above.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have a goal that involves everyone in the world having at least one friend in every other country of the world.
Everyone should have the opportunity to travel, not just rich people. In particular, I like friendly and social couchsurfers that are world travelers and have something interesting or useful to contribute to our community. Whether it's entertaining us with interesting stories from afar, playing guitar, washing a few extra dishes, or seeing the sights with our guests.
Interests
Travel, micro-business entrepreneurs, building community, fixing things that I'm told are not fixable, and being a Dad. Not necessarily in that order.

Music, Movies, and Books
Science Fiction mostly. But I'm really a movie-hound and I'll watch anything. Non-fiction or technical manuals mostly. Yes, boring I know. I'm a slow reader so I rarely have time for fiction.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Founded Hostels.com in 1994.
visited 49 states (98%)
visited 36 countries (18.4%) - Looking at this map I realize there are so many more I need to go to.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm pretty open with my hostel business plan. I enjoy meeting people who have dreams of starting their own hostel, and would be happy to provide any information and guidance I can. If you would like to learn the ropes (the way I did from my Hostelling mentor in Scotland) come stay with us for a while.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Ask for what you need. If I have it, I very well may share it with you. For example, I have camping equipment, coolers, and luggage that other guests have left behind.
