ABOUT ME
Right now, I'm working on my PhD in cosmology: I try to wrap my head around what was going on in the early universe. Sometimes, I try to get non-scientists excited about science by answering questions at science festivals, organising talks and film screenings, helping out with a magazine, and getting on a podcast.
I love wandering around new cities. I enjoy detours. You will often find me taking random turns like I know where I'm going. I don't. That's the point.
I'm good at keeping houseplants alive.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've stayed on lots of couches. Most recently, I was visiting a friend in Stockholm and stayed with a friend of hers. He was great, extremely easy-going, made fantastic ginger tea, converted me to smokey whisky, and lived with the loveliest cat I'd ever met.
Interests
I am interested in a lot of things. I can get pretty excited about random science or anything else that helps me understand the world better. I love the theatre, strange art, dogs, grammar, musicals, cats, and cake.
I like parties where I don't know anyone, and I like parties with just my close friends. I love meeting lots of different people.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books/authors I like: Kite Runner, Handmaid's Tale, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Neil Gaiman, American Gods, His Dark Materials, George Orwell, Tennessee Williams.
Music I've been enjoying lately: Dresden Dolls, Gold Panda, Tori Amos, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Silje Nergaard, Regina Spektor, Jacques Brel.
Films: The Kid, Magnolia, Spirited Away, A Single Man, The Prestige, Memento.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've got a physics degree, so I'm happy to talk about that. I used to know someone who claimed physics gave him a working knowledge of the entire universe; I wouldn't go that far, but I'm pretty good at making educated guesses and appearing confident about them.
I'm very curious about how communities work and how you can make a given set of people feel like they're part of something bigger. If anyone had any insight to share on that, that'd be great!
I love baking, but don't get enough opportunities to practise. If you wanted to bake something and get better at it together, that could be pretty fun!
