I am nearing the end of my studying days as I am in the process of finalizing my Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. This 6 year journey has consumed countless hours in which blood, sweat and beers (oh, and ofcurse tears...) have been shed in every imaginable way. Needless to say, I have enjoyed learning everything I have (otherwise I wouldn't have done 6 years of it) but I have made the decision to reward myself for my efforts by taking a sabbatical before embarking on a career in which this becomes my life.

I enjoy hanging out with people (only the fun and humorous ones though) and love making new friends. I am fairly limited in my travel experience in comparison to some of the other profiles I have seen around here but plan on changing that and embarking on new adventures which I hope will challenge the things I think I know and my perspective of what this world has to offer.

I am a huge sports fan (specifically Rugby) and enjoy learning about sports and watching them live. I enjoy the outdoors, summer times in South Africa are my favourite times as they're generally spent by the pool or beach side with a cocktail. I am also an avid diver, enjoy hiking and anything that involves using my body to do things that don't require me to have my head in a textbook.

I am one of the only people in my circles of friends and family who makes an effort to make conversation with strangers, and that would have to be because I find it very interesting learning about people and sharing with them. We all have different walks of life and have gone through different encounters who have made us who we are today. Why not share that with someone as it may have a profound impact on their outlook in life?

I see Couchsurfing as a fantastic way of combining my travel desires with that of speaking to people, learning about them and gaining a different perspective to our walks of life. I see it as a great way of meeting new people, making friends and creating life long memories with those people.

Music is definitely a big part of who I am. I like to say that I like just about any music but we all have a preference and there generally is something that we don't like. I suppose a better way of putting it is that I can appreciate most, if not all, music genres but definitely have my favourites. My favourites would be in the realm of Rock, Rap, Dance, House, EDM, Metal (not too heavy though), Reggae and Blues. I absolutely love listening to live music because of the atmosphere it creates and the rawness of the instruments, not to mention the talents that exist.

I always enjoy watching a good movie and would say that I am a fan of animations, comedies and action films.

I'm not a big reader.

Would probably have to be my diving experiences. I have dived with Manta Rays in Bali, Indonesia as well as having done a baited shark dive in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa where we were immersed in at least 20 white tip sharks with no cage (I know they're not the big guns but it was still pretty amazing)

Having been engulfed by my studies for all these years my scope of knowledge is very limited. All the more reason to travel and broaden my horizons and perspectives. But I do love talking about the things that I have learnt for anyone that will listen.

Outside of my studies I like encouraging people to get involved in some of the outdoor activities that I enjoy such as scuba-diving and hiking purely due to the incredible things that we are so privileged to enjoy on this earth. I like doing this by sharing the experiences I have had.
