About Me

I have backpacked to 109 countries (192 in world so 55%) Retired 7 years ago (At age 49) and live in Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, China and mostly Philippines. I spend 1 to 3 months in each of my bases and fly only on Promotional/sale airfares, Typically $5 to $50 all in cost. I'm the master of finding these airfares and can teach you how to do it. I worked in a TV station for 7 years as technician, sold Realestate for 5 years, managed a mobile phone shop for 3 years, then 10 years of call centers that allowed me to do many 1 year trips. I,m easy going organized person and plan my trips up to a year ahead.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For the last 7 years on the road my budget has averaged USD15.40 a day or $6,000 a year all in. My secret is negotiating monthly hotel deals that match a 30 day visa. Also i only fly when it is cheap. Couchsurfing will allow my to visit cities that i would normally avoid and thru the host i will get a better insight into those citys. I see couchsurfing as a 2 way street where valuable information and experiences are shared.

My favorite Move is "The Bucket List''
Have over 12,000 songs on my laptop, a mixture of everything.
Dont read many books, listen podcasts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had a Delta 30 day Airpass good for unlimited flights in the USA.
I took 74 flights in that time. I had carry on only as i do now and was able to go anywhere i wanted. I flew early morning and late at night, slept on airport floors alot, Spent the day in a chosen city. I was in Mount Rushmore starring at the presidents faces and asked some locals where should i be for my first Halloween, they said New Orleans, that evening i,m walking up Bourbon street in the French quarter of New Orleans showing the locals how cool they looked on Video.
Treating a plane like a bus was a very sureal experience, totally emotional decision making, where will i go next?

Teach, Learn, Share

I,m a patient person and good teacher, love to meet new people and learn about their world. I have received so much help in my travel life, i always love to give back by helping others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have 36 years of travel experience, nearly all budget travel. I,m like a professional budget traveler the way i plan my trips. They all work out well, once on the road i take it as it comes. I,m now on Trip 26. I spend 1 month every 2 years home in Melbourne. I have a Electrical/Mechanical and Marketing background so i,m very resourceful in solving problems and allways find better ways to do things.
I,m always researching on the net how to improve how i travel. For example how to get money from Australia to anywhere in the world at minimum cost, Citibank "Plus Account'' a Visa Debit card is a winner. No annual fee. No 3% currency conversion fee, no hidden fees. You can pull local currency out of a Citi ATM at no cost with good exchange rates. Also you can remit money to anywhere in the world to a bank account for a $3 fee.

Also I,m the master of finding airline tickets at cost, typically the seat is free, you pay taxes only. Teach you how use Skyscanner to find cheap fares you only dreamed of.

I,m allso a very good photographer getting the best out of what camera/phone you have.

I,m very practical handyman if i cant fix it myself i always find out the best way getting it fixed.

Saving money is something i,m good at.
