CURRENT MISSION

Myself and my wife Tarryn are currently on an expedition called Suzuki Africa Sky High. It forms part of an initiative we started called Team Tane (www.teamtane.com) where we share our adventures in the hope of inspiring others to travel and adventure in our amazing world. Our main focuses are trying to encourage environmental sustainability and cultural awareness and acceptance.

ABOUT ME

Having grown up for an almost equal time in three countries (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia) and having lived in and travelled many others, I am a self-professed country mongrel with a unique accent that often changes mid-sentence. Interested and excited about nearly everything, l has found my way into numerous communities and activities. Since university where I found climbing I have become somewhat of an adventure nut and been involved in everything from climbing and diving to paragliding and much more. Professionally an engineer and project manager in the renewables industry, I tend to flit between the worlds of structure and exploration on a daily basis. Having nearly kicked the bucket due to a paragliding accident in 2015 I wake each morning with a with a deep respect for the gift we are given each day we wake up.

PHILOSOPHY

"Live today as if you will die tomorrow and plan as if you will live forever." Anything is possible, I like to keep an open mind. Lastly; something can be learnt from everyone and anyone. I don't care whether you are Bill Gates or the local homeless man, if you are a cool dude or dudette... I will welcome you as a friend.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Really into finding out about new people, cultures and places. To me couch surfing is about opportunities to witness these things first hand from others. Whether it be in hosting or in visiting others, seems to me like a wicked plan.

Interests

Everything and anything... All the way from a piece of sticky tape to space ships and of course the lachness monster.... Big on the list is meeting new people and seeing new places.

Hands down though, my biggest interest is ADVENTURES. Whether it be anything from; hiking to adventure racing, climbing and mountain biking, scuba and free diving I can't get enough.

Lived a few places and like to think I have picked up a little about what being a local is all about. Free lessons in English slang from four major countries in the southern hemisphere. Warning: People may not understand you afterwards ;)

Really interested in learing about new cultures and ways of life. Also really up for any form of adventure. Also love learning languages and really appreciate help in this regard.
