Music, Movies, and Books
Music: early Brian Eno, krautrock, classic rock, ambient, prog rock, rap, folk, indie, Bela Fleck, tuareg neofolk, assorted South African acapella, delta blues, The Magnetic Fields, electronic, shoegaze, post-rock, post-punk, random pop from the 20s thru today.
Movies: The Coen Brothers, Michel Gondry, Lars von Trier, Werner Herzog, Charlie Kaufman, Spike Jonze, Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Federico Fellini, Woody Allen, Darren Aronofsky, David Lynch, many others.
Books: I used to read a lot of science fiction/fantasy; recently it's been a buuunch of non-fiction: sociology, psychology, philosophy, history, the social sciences. Too many books to list.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Built a log cabin.
Seen cedars coruscating through winds sweeping lake waves awry from canoo tips brushing the cool grey mist of water.
Been within a few hundred feet of the top of Mont Blanc.
Seen mountain-tops rise to the firmament and mountain bottoms rejoin trees with sand.
I've seen attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I've seen the eyes of my brothers alight with curiosity, the focus of their gaze turned on a small thing made large in the space of a passion I'd largely forgotten, and they lit the fire in me and now I remember. Thank you, baby brother.
Been in the middle of a riot as a journalist.
Given haunted ghost tours in Hollywood while being filmed. (I made up some of the stories. Most of the folks could probably tell. We had fun.)
Teach, Learn, Share
I cook (non-professionally, but extremely habitually). I worked on a farm. I could help with building. I'm familiar with a wide array of internet-ey stuff. I've been a paid consultant! Haha. I know how to do lots of random things. I can teach you how to make your own deodorant! Or bread! Or charcoal! And I want to learn SO MUCH! EXCLAMATION POINT about learning! Teach me!
We'll figure it out.
