About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to have the adventure of a lifetime: spend a year in a developing country (Check), now it's off to backpacking New Zealand and Australia with one of my best friends to see some of the most beautiful sights in the world.

ABOUT ME

This one is proving pretty hard for me for some reason, but when people first meet me, I think I can come off as really friendly when I first meet someone. In terms of stereotypes, I guess I'm kind of a mix of nerd meets athlete meets naturalist. I've been out of school for a couple years now, but going back this fall because I miss it. I've been doing sports my whole life and, if I spend any significant amount of time with someone who isn't into them, I eventually end up getting them into running or yoga or something along those lines.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to live by this, but it can be very challenging.

"Always recognize that human individuals are ends. Never use them as means to an end." Immanuel Kant

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a total newbie right now to couchsurfing, but would like to participate by sharing in my adventures and being up for showing surfers around Montreal when I'm down this whirlwind of travels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm new to couchsurfing, but I'm really excited to see what it's all about. While I'm traveling, my favourite thing to do is to be immersed into the culture and get to know people rather than get stuck in tourist trap after tourist trap. It seems like couchsurfing was created just for that reason.

Interests

My problem in life has always been that I have too many interests (I find it hard to make decisions and keep myself pretty busy). A common thread through a lot of these interests, however, is I like to learn about new cultures. I love studying and reading about them (especially about the ethics and solutions to mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence), traveling to new places, making friends with diverse groups of people, learning new languages, and eating different foods and learning how to cook/bake my favourites. I love dancing to Latin music, especially Salsa and Tango. I have also always been interested in sports, playing, not watching (unless it's Hockey, I am Canadian after all). I played Lacrosse in high school and university and like to jog, bike, and swim. I have also really gotten into yoga in the past couple years.

Music, Movies, and Books

I watch a lot of chick flicks, but do appreciate deeper films, my favorite are La Vita e Bella and The Count of Monte Cristo.

I will always have a soft spot for the man who introduced me to jazz and soul at the age of 14, Michael Buble, who has led me to a love of Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie. I also love Aretha Franklin, Carol King, and Stevie Wonder.

My reading lists are always all over the place, generally reading a quick read at the same time as a book on ethics. My recent favorites include 1984, Fountainhead, Pride and Prejudice, Change of Heart, Hunger Games, Salt of the Earth, and Love and Responsibility.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have to say my trip out to Western Canada was amazing last summer, from rafting in Banff Springs to Wine Tours Kelowna to urban touring in Vancouver and kayaking and hiking in Victoria with my little sis, I saw so many beautiful sights for a trip that was planned only two weeks beforehand.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking and would be up for teaching some of my specialties!
