About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To connect with locals and travellers, and provide a hub for them to meet each other
ABOUT ME
Exploration of ideas and development of technical knowledge are the driving forces behind what I do and who I am.
The story so far: I was born in England, but grew up in Australia. As with most people who moved young, I never really felt completely at home in either place, so decided to take the experiment further and move to the Balkans, where I have discovered a real sense of home and belonging.
I try to choose the most interesting option, rather than the easiest one... so, over the last 10 years I've been a trumpet maker, a museum preparator, an art handler, a potato grader, a house renovator, a movie extra and a steam train driver :)
I currently live in Sarajevo and run a laundry/cafe/metal workshop, where you can also get travel advice for Sarajevo and the Balkan region. When I first came to Sarajevo, I worked at a hostel and tourist agency, and now try to use the knowledge I gained there to help people I meet in the laundry.
PHILOSOPHY
Change is the only constant
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I try to use my laundry as a meeting point for couchsurfers and other travellers, to enable them to connect with each other and to discover new possibilities. I offer free internet and free travel advice, and sometimes we have concerts in the evenings. If any local or travelling (acoustic-we need to stay on good terms with the neighbours!) act is keen to have a concert here, please get in touch!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've met some truly great people in the CouchSurfing communtity, and seen parts of the world that would otherwise have been unknown to me. It's also been great to be in a position to help and meet up with other travellers :)
Interests
I love music, and over the years have learned the trumpet and drums (but kind of suck at them now, sadly). My two favourite festivals in Sarajevo are the Film Festival and the Jazz Festival (definitely worth being here for either of them!). I don't go out as often as I used to, and when I do, I tend to spend more money on eating than drinking these days...must be getting old!
