Hello! I'm Shaun. I'm a US-American, from Maryland (near Washington D.C.). I lived in southwestern France for two years after university, and then moved to North Wales. I worked summer 2021 in the San Juan islands, and now I'm back in North Wales with my Welsh husband :)

I am outgoing and love sharing the beauty of life with people. I studied to be a science and a history teacher; science taught me to see the beauty in the complexity of the natural world, and history taught me to see that people can have an impact on everything around them. With these two passions, I can never be bored! I prefer to share these wonders with people, but I am also married to an introvert :) so I am happy to independently seek out experiences when I can't find anyone nearby to spend time with.

I believe that everyone has something to teach and plenty to learn, and that travel is a really good way to do both of those things. If you stay with me or host me, I am happy to teach and learn anything, but I'm especially interested in recipes and languages. I'm currently working mostly on my Welsh as that's the language of my new home. If you like indie pop or indie rock music, I've got some Welsh bands you might like!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe in the real power of connections with people. My current home in Wales is all thanks to a Welsh friend I met while studying abroad in France, and my experience couchsurfing is thanks to a South African friend I met while teaching in France. Travel hasn't just shaped my perspectives, it has led me down very specific and beautiful paths I would not have known without the help of people from all over the world, and I am grateful to every single one of them for helping me create a life I love. I want to continue that energy with people from all over the world!
