About Me

I'm a world-traveling homebody. I'm Mostly vegetarian. A Technology geek enthralled with the natural world. I'm 50% Norwegian Bachelor Farmer, 50% Macgyver, and 50% Martha Stewart (I'm also great at math).
Uninterested in the notion of a "normal" life, Im currently enjoying a fair amount of traveling to satisfy my wanderlust and gain perspective outside the bubble. The most important thing I know is that I don't know nearly enough, so I usually prefer to ask, listen and learn more than talk. I try to appreciate others' perspectives even when they differ wildly from my own. I really enjoy cycling and have spent considerable time riding, racing and bikepacking the countryside. Small, simplistic spaces put me at ease, and I'm finding contentment in practicing a minimalist lifestyle (although I value technology, and will always a certain amount of carbon fiber, titanium, and synthetic fabrics in my life!). Having downsized my possessions over the past several years and finding comfort living in a tiny house and/or out of a backpack, I am seriously interested in a continued semi-nomadic lifestyle.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been surfing (hosting and traveling) for a few years, off and on. The experiences and friends made through this network has been as meaningful as the travel itself.

Interests

I keep busy with projects that combine equal parts brain and brawn, and can usually be found building and tinkering with just about anything. I'm both a dreamer and a do-er, usually at the same time! I'm intrigued by architecture and have created several houses and various other structures, mostly around my 13 acre property in northern MN.. However, I most enjoy time spent cooking healthy meals with others, exercising (I'm a "recovered" ironman triathlete, ultra runner, cyclist and nordic skier), and exploring new destinations and cultures. Memories!

Music, Movies, and Books

I tend towards documentaries, adventure stories, and biographies, but enjoy the entertainment of just about any movie that doesn't involve sub-titles.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Completing/surviving a 16 hour ascent of a 15,000 ft peak somewhere in The Andes with a Peruvian "guide" (and I use the term loosely) who afterwards confessed he'd never attempted it and didn't know if our route was even possible.

Teach, Learn, Share

If I'm available, I'd enjoying sharing my latest project- a 120 year old log cabin that I've renovated into a tiny house. 350 cozy and charming square feet, with room for a couple travelers, plus myself. My northern MN home is a great place to hang out and relax, or get involved in the latest sustainability project going on around the property.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've enjoyed sharing meals, preferably cooked together, along with thought-provoking conversation and hopefully a good Imperial stout whenever it can be found! I'm a neat & tidy minimalist-types and attempt to leave a place as good as (or better than) I found it.
