About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Taking the pre reqs to apply to nursing school; returning to myself and learning greater acceptance.
ABOUT ME
My name is Shelby. I'm an energetic and bouncy lover of new experiences. My friends know me as "SheBunnyFly." For as long as I can remember I have known strangers are simply friends I've yet to get to know. My favorite people are the open-minded ones; those who have words to speak, projects to create; who live life full of passion and energetic go, go, go! I love to eat good food - to fuel the body and mind with flavor and variety. Why yes, I'd love to go eat raw, vegan, fried, organic, local, food trailer, non-vegan and everything else at this awesome restaurant or at home! I enjoy listening to music immensely. I keep myself in the best condition when I go to hike, yoga, camp, swim, explore, and dance. I enjoy books and films as well as beer, liquor, hookah, and a good party. I do not enjoy being inside all day several days in a row nor am I fond of being on a computer or phone hour after hour. For those familiar with MBTI, my personality type is ENFx (close P/J). I love in-depth conversations about self-identity and what drives the people I'm around - what they love and what they don't. My chosen family fluctuates between: neighbors where I live currently; couchsurfers and the rather large and always growing burning community; burners are everywhere )'(. Prepare thyself: I am currently working on listening better as I get very excited being around other humans. I tend to communicate a large amount of information in a short amount of time, meaning, I talk very fast. Do inform me if I am talking too quickly. Don't think that I'm not focused about what I say... I'm an intelligent and clever BunnyFly!
PHILOSOPHY
The greatest things are love, education, experience, and knowledge.
What can I be held responsible for? Not external forces. To some extent thoughts. Thoughts can be chaotic, out of control, and overwhelming or they can be observed, allowed, and accepted. Most responsibility is in response. I imperfectly aim to examine love and put forth my best rendition of it in each and every moment.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Hosting and Surfing!
I began by hosting in college, and it was a beautiful way to feel involved as many of my good friends graduated and moved away. My first surf resulted from driving home from college (Flagstaff AZ to Austin TX). I met one of the most fantastic Magenta-haired fellows I've ever met. His hospitality blew mine out of the water, and I knew I was officially hooked with this CS community of one-uping-host kindness. I hope to have space of my own soon to host fellow couchsurfers again - I miss it.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
People are generally Awesome. I've been gifted sleeping space, home cooked food, restaurant dinners, water bottles, wine bottles, beer bottles, car keys, house keys, hikes, discussions, long drives and lifetime friendships. I now know that I love hosting and surfing equally. I love the curiously-open ready-to-assist mentality that makes this community grow and thrive.
Interests
Currently interested in new friends, scuba diving (I'm certified!), Anatomy & Physiology with the goal of applying to a nursing program.
Music, Movies, and Books
One of the best books I was ever told to read (and did) was the Tao of Pooh; changed my life. Another book I've been working through is The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Religion and Politics. I'm also down with the books crafted by Micheal Pollen.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
2016: Climbed to the top of Mt. Fuji just after a typhoon passed by way of walking from Gotemba city (2+ hours), a roadside pick-up, drop off at the original Yoshida trail head base (double the length of the original planned hike, so 14+ hours) and finally getting off the mountain after 33 hours of walking.
Oh, and we both lived to tell the tale.
2017: Circumnavigated the island of Tortola in the BVI on a 38 ft. sailboat with my good friend Scott. From Road Town we sailed to Norman island and counterclockwise all the way out to Anagada where we ran aground briefly. I sailed the boat from Anagada to Jost Van Dyke. We enjoyed 9 successful scuba dives along the way - and they were Amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
