About Me

I’m not your typical introverted writer: I am very outgoing and truly enjoy people. I moved to Paris in September of this year and I’ve just sold my house. Now I am as free as a bird! I want to travel and see everything and meet everyone.

I’m so fortunate to have many friends in all walks of life--artists and carpenters and lawyers and activists and poets and students. I'm an avid reader of novels and the news, and love to talk politics, literature, and ideas. Being from the South also means I'm a raconteur, but I love to hear stories, too. I just love to swap stories, period!

I'm also an excellent cook, a perpetually cheerful optimist, a loyal friend, and a free spirit.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people and pay it forward!

Interests

Traveling! I've been to Costa Rica, England, Scotland, Wales, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Egypt, France, Paris, and 49 US states (Alaska, here I come!) and I now dream of seeing the rest.

Cooking, dining out, and wine.

Feminist activism--I am a founding member of Spokane Area NOW.

Everything and anything French.

Art, music, dance, opera, poetry, theater, writing--anything artsy, and I'm in, and if it's edgy art, all the better.

Dancing to live music, especially blues and guitar rock.

Piano--I play a little, and not very well, but I love it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love 1920s and 30s jazz, American and French, which I listen to often. I also really love French music — hack, French anything! Acid jazz, too, gets me going. Really, I like anything that's good--even (especially) opera, which I consider the ultimate art form.

Books? How can I choose ? AMERICANAH. MOSES, MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN. The books of Ellen Gilchrist, Anne Patchett, Anne Tyler. THE CHRONOLOGY OF WATER. Annie Ernaux. Oh, Lord, the list goes on and on. Don't get me started! I won't stop!

I’ve also published 6 novels and have just finished another. You can learn more about my books at https://authorsherryjones.com.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked Montana's Continental Divide Trail and co-wrote a guidebook about it. We wanted to call it "It's Better on Top," but the editors preferred "The Hiker's Guide to Montana's Continental Divide Trail." (Sigh)

I did the full 10-day Burning Man experience in 2010 and swore I'd be back every year. Real life gets in the way every time, though. It was an amazing experience !

I wrote a novel that made international headlines and sold translation rights in 19 languages. It's been a best-seller in seven countries (but not the U.S.).

Teach, Learn, Share

I can talk about books and writing and I’m also very knowledgeable about technology and cybersecurity. In addition to being a novelist I have my own cybersecurity writing business.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, meal preparation (and cleanup), my sunny disposition, yuks, grammar lessons (just kidding), and fun times.

I'm also very independent and totally cool exploring on my own, so don't feel like you HAVE to hang out with me!

Countries I’ve Visited

Costa Rica, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Serbia, Spain, Sweden

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Germany, United States
