About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get settled back in the United States.

ABOUT ME

I'm a Milwaukeean who has returned home from a stay in Saint-Etienne, France for about year. I taught English at the primary level. I love to cook vegetarian food and have a spot for sweets! I love my bike and I'm happy I can use it again, although it is getting cold. I also really dig sewing.

PHILOSOPHY

You know, I'm not really sure what to put here. I bet it would be much like many others' philosophies, expanding my scope of the world and being healthy about it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am now in a more permanent house and would love to start hosting folks visiting the Midwest.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed in Lyon while apartment hunting with a wonderfully kind French woman who helped me get on my feet. I also stayed with a fellow in Saint Etienne for one night before moving into my apartment the next day.

Interests

I love sewing, my morning coffee, antiques, blues music, novels, and my lovely bike. There's plenty more, but no need to list it all here!

J'aime bien la couture, prendre un cafe le matin, les blues, les antiques, romans de fiction, et mon velo :) Il y a beaucoup plus, mais je ne vais pas écrire tout ici!

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoyed Papillon, and have a soft spot for the old Raymond Chandler detective novels. My new favorite author is definitely Jeanette Winterson. Written on the Body is fantastic!Movie: Saw "Gypsy" for the first time, I will admit I adore campy musicals. In fact, in the past 3 days I've watched Hello Dolly, There's No Business Like Show Business, and Funny Girl. I have a soft spot for Barbara!(J'adore les films musicals, le plus exorbitant tant mieux!)Music: Peggy Lee, Eartha Kitt, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Muddy Waters, Beirut, Sam Cooke

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last year while living in Saint-Etienne, I had the opportunity to se the Festival of Lights in Lyon. The streets were packed, there were hot wine vendors almost every 50 feet, and the historic buildings weren't just lit up, they had crazy images and shapes and videos projected onto them! It was fantastic. Up on the hillside lights were visible that read "Merci Mary," and just below, a giant canvas image of a moon was raised and lowered periodically (on the hour, I believe.) I hadn't yet become great friends with some of these people prior to going to the festival, but it's safe to say that now they are so special to me that I would like to go back and spend another year with them all, creating new memories.  :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm good with baking, I make a mean pizza crust.

I'm pretty good with sewing, I'd say excellent at embroidery.

Je fais un super pâte à pizza!
Je fais bien la couture, mais je suis excellente à la broderie main!
