About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be present wherever I am, whatever I am doing, however I feel

ABOUT ME

Just realised how out of date my profile is.
I'm a chilled type with absolutely no intention of "acting my age". I was a keen traveller until the arrival of my daughter who has just become an adult, freeing me up to do what I love: moving about, winging it, and meeting great people.

At the time of writing I am working term time with university students with disabilities and spending the summer break working at a great surf camp in France (come along for my quiz night) but am about ready to get on the road again.

When not working or with daughter I can be found practicing aikido, improving my surfing or performing some hands-on shiatsu on a willing recipient.

I have dozens of interests, whether social or musical or philosophical. I prefer the peace of empty spaces to the unnatural bustle of shopping malls.

If I had to summarise my philosophy on life it might read as:
"F**kIt"- whether that is a way to remove stress or to decide to do something crazy, it works for me.
"It's just details"- often we get caught up with the small print and forget the bigger picture. In the end it's about being happy, being kind and living an authentic life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
So far, apart from co-hosting with a former partner my experience has been limited to meeting for coffees (although one of those I met became a long term friend that I have subsequently stayed with a few times)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Chatting with happy souls about random subjects, demystifying the didgeridoo as not really a spiritual experience but the childlike innocence of getting away with making farting noises in company.

Interests

Shiatsu, aikido, laughing. Surfing a longboard. People. Music. Qigong. Nature, especially when it's wild and windy. More people. campfires and drums. did I mention people? sharing, caring, giving, enjoying life, and not forgetting People. Always trying something new, always wanting to challenge myself further. All good fun. Like people too, but I think I mentioned that. Oh, and that's before I start going on about geocaching, which you either get or you don't.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies? A tendency to fall asleep watching them. Life seems too full to allow me to sit in front of flicky pictures.
Music? Love to jam around a campfire. Eclectic tastes but tend towards stuff that can be played around said campfire. Acoustic over electronic but anything that I like at the time. Not really clued up about chart music but will listen to anything from thrash to gregorian chanting via folk, reggae, rock or African drumming.
Books? Love them. Paperback or audio. Haven't yet been sold on kindles.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rescuing a teen who had hanged himself and getting him breathing again.

Teach, Learn, Share

Shiatsu - destressing your meridians.
Music - always keen to learn, always keen to share.
Laughter - not that we need to learn laughter but it is always good to be reminded
Anecdotes: always a tale to tell, and I love to hear others.
Cooking: a chance to share South Indian food or gado gado will not be missed.
Inspiration. I love to leave a conversation with a larger bucket list than I arrived with. Meeting people who have done something amazing always recharges me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Currently living in a caravan in a field to save for future travels so it is unlikely that I can host (unless the surfer is willing to adopt a feral lifestyle, if so please let me know and I will see what I can do, Bodmin Moor is an amazing place to find yourself lost in)

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, Belgium, Egypt, France, Gibraltar, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Monaco, Morocco, Nepal, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, India, United Kingdom
