Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am currently having a gap year and traveling around. I hope to figure out if I could become a freelancer as a writer, blogger or documentary maker. My wife is studying filmmaking so I am also collecting stories for scripts. I look forward to meeting people from different backgrounds and being inspired by them.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Britpop and have interests in anything alternative. My favorite band is Suede. And I do want to know about pop music in your culture so don't hesitate to share with me.

I am a true film enthusiast with a passion in any kind of film art (as I said my wife is studying filmmaking and we may work on some movies together in the future). My favorite film directors range from Jean-Luc Gordard, Werner Herzog, Michelangelo Antonioni, Wong Kar-Wai, Fruit Chan, Jim Jarmusch and Tommy Wiseau. Officially my favorite film is Bande a Part (Band of Outsiders) but my "actual favorite film" is Ferris Bueller's Day off.

I do love reading but have to admit that I haven't read much (guess I spend too much time in films). I like Garcia Marquez and some Chinese authors.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made my decision of having a gap year within an hour, without any hesitation. I am still making full use of my time and hope to figure out what I want for my life in one year's time.

Teach, Learn, Share

Since I am a film enthusiast (and my undergraduate degree is related to film studies as well), I surely have some knowledge in films and specialize in Chinese cinema, Hong Kong cinema, French new waves and cult films. If you are interested we can share our knowledge of films and watch some weird stuff together!

I am a specialist in Chinese pop culture (according to my friends) and was even employed as a part-time lecturer when in college, teaching about pop culture histories (mostly video games, films and TV) in post-Mao China so I certainly could share with you some interesting stories.

I cook as well. If you happen to have an interest in real Chinese food (not those take-aways with boring sauces) I could definitely teach you some (or just cook some for you).

I have the experience of teaching mandarin Chinese and quite enjoy it. Just ask if you wanna learn the language.
