About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Write more songs

ABOUT ME

At this point I've spent just over half of my life in the U.S. and just under half in Israel (where I'm living now). I've traveled some but not enough and I'm always excited to meet more people!

I'm Jewish and I follow Jewish traditions. (I don't eat non-kosher foods and I don't use electricity or drive on the Sabbath and Jewish holidays.) I'm somewhere in between the secular and religious groups, and I guess it's not very common in Israel and only a little more common outside of the country.

I've been really into music for as long as I remember and I think the songs I wrote at age 3 may have been better than the songs I try to write these days... I've learned and forgotten to play the trumpet and saxophone, but I mostly play guitar and some piano and ukulele.

PHILOSOPHY

I'd like to be as awesome as I can so that people will enjoy being around me and I will enjoy myself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting CSers has been a wonderful experience and I've had only awesome surfers who actually wanted to meet me! I've only surfed once myself, and it was a few years ago, but I definitely hope to repeat the experience sometime in the future. I am pretty lazy about participating in the CS community, and it seems like I only ever go to meetings when traveling, but I guess that counts for something!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Some highlights of my CS experiences include: going with CSers to see Amanda Palmer perform in Edinburgh, singing with CSers on an underground train in Boston and having strangers join in, and going to see a very unusual sort of play with a CSer where we followed the actors around the rooms of an old Jerusalem prison!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Arctic Village, Alaska: 150 people, a 2-hour flight away from the nearest city, and a 14-hour drive away from the nearest other town. I stood on the top of a mountain and saw in every direction an endless space filled with nobody. Nothing is more humbling than that.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've got experience teaching/tutoring in English and Hebrew so I'm happy to help with any language-learning adventures of that sort. I can also try to teach you a little bit of guitar, but I don't actually play that well so it will only work if you don't know how to play at all... I do a decent job at teaching basic ukulele playing, but probably not much better than the internet :)

Something I'd really like to (finally) learn is how to put make-up on properly! I know it's silly, and I don't plan on wearing make-up any more than I do now (not a lot), but for the special occasions where I do want to look extra nice, it would be helpful if I actually knew what I was doing! The smeared lipstick look is not working for me.

Since I spent a lot of time away from Israel, I can share a slightly different perspective on Israeli culture. I guess I'm not quite like the rest of them. :)
