About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Exploring Scotland. Since a few years already I am intrigued by Scotland and it's highlandculture. Spending a lot of time outside and in nature has always been important to me. My homecountry Belgium doesn't have a lot of wild nature. This wild and rough highlands really speak to me. There is something there for me to explore, that's what I feel. So finally I managed to plan a trip to Scotland!

ABOUT ME

Two years ago me and a friend started an small-scale ecological day care for children 0-3 years old in Belgium. So in daily life I work with small children. Most of the day we are outside with the children, I really love it. During holiday I like to travel and meet new worlds and people. A few years ago I did a six months hiking and studying trip through Europe. Still it feels as one of the most powerfull experiences I've had until now. From time to time I take some time off from work to explore this wild part of myself again in nature.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couch surfed quite sometimes already. And I had really nice experiences! It is just a wonderful way to be in a new country. I really like that the people who host can get you some insides about how life works in that place. How people meet, what kind of cultural differences there are, what places are worthy to visit. I personally don't really like the feeling of being 'a tourist'. Nice about couch surfing is that it is free, but more key to me is that the hosts are not seeing you as a customer, but as a potential new friend.

Interests

I work with small children, it's something I really love to do and get a lot of energy from. The day care I started is based on the antroposophical worldview, that's something I am interested about. I went to a Waldorf school, that kind of places always feel like home, wherever in the world they are.

Besides that nature and outdoor life have always been important to me. Recently I got really interested in herb medicine and foraging as well.

Last year I also started some acroyoga courses. I'm not yet a professional, but I really like it.

Tasty, nice but especially fair food is also pretty important to me. At home I spent quite some energy in living a sustainable lifestyle, in particular when it comes to the food I buy (but also clothes and other goods). I buy organic, prefer local, zero-waste, ... I know quite some farmers and projects in the surroundings of where I live. There was a time that I sometimes longed to be a farmer myself as well, but at the time it feels perfect to have a few good friends around me who are passionated about growing good food. It is delicious!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not spending so much time listening to music, but if I do I can really appreciate some Bluegrass music, but my musical interests are really not limited to that. I don't watch so many movies, but there are defenitly some that really touched me, though I cannot remember their names in the moment. Same with books, I read a lot. Most of the time several books at a time are laying around my bed and desks. Half of the time it is a novel, but I also read a lot of non-fiction books about a big range of topics that interest me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking from Czeck Republik to Greece. Living a nomadic lifestyle for several months changed me really. It changed the topics and depth of my thoughts, my way of thinking, my look at the close and fare away future, ... And besides that it was a special experience to realize that all of a sudden clothes are not in the first place made to look fancy, but to keep you warm. Rain has a huge influence on your daily life and food is there to give you energy in the first place, in stead of giving you a tasty nice experience (which was quite a special realisation for me as having a big passion for delicious food). In a way I felt closer then ever before to living in harmony with nature.
