ABOUT ME

I enjoy being barefoot, and I enjoy being outdoors... ideally a combination of both. I have a passion for food - finding it, growing it, preparing it, eating it - food brings people together. I have been described as "stoic." My friends think I'm funny, clever and full of wit. I am always up for an adventure, big or... less big.

PHILOSOPHY

I exercise just so I can eat more.

I believe in being open-minded and rational, with a healthy flair for common sense.

' When a Zen student was walking through a market he overheard a conversation between a butcher and his customer.
"Give me the best piece of meat you have," said the customer.
"Everything in my shop is the best," replied the butcher. "You cannot find here any piece of meat that is not the best."
At these words the student became enlightened. '

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Going to area CS events... hosting area CS events (like monthly potlucks!)... surfing. Telling everyone I know how awesome Couch Surfers are. Being a welcoming host whether it's CS-related or not.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mostly the Grand Rapids meet-ups and potlucks, hosting the Grand Rapids Couch Crash, hosted a few surfers here and there, and went to the Detroit Couch Crash. All of which are awesome.

All things about FOOD interest me. I enjoy almost all types of music and have a bit of an eye for non-traditional art. Finding "adventure" in everyday life interests me. Good conversation around good food is an ideal situation!

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

An amazing thing: camping on a crystal clear, perfectly smooth lake in Michigan's UP. Seeing the sand on the bottom and the reflection of the stars, with fog from the warm lake rising into the chilly night air was the perfect moment of camping bliss!

I am a butcher, and love teaching people about meat - where it can/should come from and how to prepare and cook it.

I was a sociologist, once. Think: Freakonomics.

I'm always on the lookout for new things to learn, from engine repair to sailing to plumbing! I love learning ALL things!!

Sharing a good meal is the best way to strengthen community.
