About Me
Hey!
My name is Shmuel. I also go by Sam (which is a more more traditionally american name). My name is Hebrew derivative and means "name of god", which I figure doesn't mean literally the name *of* god, but rather a name that is godly. I'm not sure either way, it's just what my father decided to name me. He also knows the Hebrew language! I digress.
A little more about me. I'm 21 in March 2017 and very interested in travelling the world. I went to Tabarka, Tunisia at 12 years of age and to Frankfurt, Germany at 10 years of age. Since then I have pined to travel more. I'm visiting Costa Rica in March this year and plan to visit the Limon province, specifically Puerto Viejo.
What I hope to do with my life is to work with children of special needs and in some ways get to do that with little academic background. I'm working for the Mult. education district at their outdoor school in spring and really looking forward to teaching in that environment. Other than that I'm a camp counselor in the summer and a full time student in the fall/winter/spring . I have pretty extensive background in the food industry too, but I'd rather not end up there.
I'm living in Portland Oregon temporarily and hope to move on to warmer climates in the future. I have always lived in the Willamette Valley so when I moved from my parents place I naturally stayed in the area. I go to school here, go hiking and am also a very avid cycler in my free time.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
This seems like a really convenient way to meet new people of other cultures and to form a general itinerary. I would enjoy greatly to visit people of other cultures and find people to hang out with outside of my country, because I imagine travelling alone is a little lonely. I think this service is also really nice because I'm a little shy to begin with, and having a designated rendezvous takes some of the pressure off.
Music, Movies, and Books
I am a huge book nut. I like the LOTR series, kingkiller chronicles, american classics, various books on real world success and development and (a little) existential fiction.
I'm still pretty new to raggae but I like yellowman and bob marley. I mostly listen to folk music like bob dylan, joni mitchell, cat stevens, neil young and simon and garfunkel. I also play a little bit of guitar.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One time my friend and I watched the whole LOTR movie series in a day and I also read the whole of the harry potter series in 3 weeks... But in terms of useful things being a camp counselor was one of the most amazing work experiences I have had the opportunity to be a part of.
Teach, Learn, Share
When there isn't much a person can share there is always a story a person has to tell, and it takes a special kind of person to listen wholeheartedly. I like to think I am a good listener. A general rule I follow is "listen twice as much as you speak".
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can tell you about my way of living , my story, a happy face and smile :)
