Overview
About Me
I love being around lively and fun people with a sense of humor. I'd say that I'm not your average American, although I grew up that way and I can play along. I much prefer conversations than tv watching and activity over drinking. I believe in a world that can do much better than we are doing now. I try to see the best in people and I understand that you can learn something from everyone you meet. If I had to describe myself in three words I would say I am sincere, playful, and adventurous.
I am mostly focused on health, wellness and fitness at this time in my life. I'm a certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and I spent many years studying natural medicine and alternative healing. I'm looking to go back to school perhaps to gain a better understanding of the body through Kinesiology or massage.
Currently, I teach pole dance fitness at Tribe Dance and Pole in Asheville, NC. You can find me on Instagram as "Sholly_lama".
My plans are to travel around the U.S. visiting cities that I think would be fun to live in and exploring the culture there for a few weeks, taking some pole classes and seeing national parks along the way. My end goal is to go to Burning Man in August. It will be my first Burning Man, but I've been to 7 other burns on the east coast.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My roommate in college had a couchsurfing account, about 10 years ago. I've hosted so many people from all around the U.S. and world, yet I never had my own account because she handled everything.
I did create my account in 2010 with the intention of getting some reviews for myself, but we moved to North Carolina and those days were over.
I am reactivating my account now because I will be traveling across the U.S. this summer to go to Burning Man and I would love to save money and meet amazing people along the way. I understand that you get so much more out of visiting a city with a local who knows the ropes. Anyway, that's why I am here and it would be a pleasure to meet you!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music is something I rarely go without. I enjoy all types of genres, depending on the occasion. My first love is rock and roll, from classic rock to 90's alternative grunge rock to metal. I also really enjoy certain types of electronic music and hip hop. I can get down to some popular music, reggae and I love being exposed to new music. I don't really like country, folk, sappy singer song writer stuff. I can listen to it, but I don't prefer it. I'm a dancer, so I usually like something fun and upbeat. Here are a few of my all time favs:
Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Tool, APC, Puscifer, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Chevelle, Radiohead, Cake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marilyn Manson, Primus, Sublime, Marley, Alina Baraz, Soohan, Zhu, Aluna George, Odesza, Dimond Saints, Mihkal, Chet Faker, Hermitude, Glass Animals, Diplo, Lido, Halsey, Chainsmokers, Blackmill, Portishead, Outkast, Ludacris, Dre, Biggie, T-pain, Ty Dolla, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, Jeremiah.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Recently, I won 1st place at the Southern Pole Sport Organization Competition in Atlanta! I won the gold in level 3, style exotic. Feels good to have put so much hard work into my craft and have it pay off!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am a thoughtful house guest who will leave a place better than I found it if the opportunity presents itself. I love cooking for people and sharing stories about the world through my eyes.
