About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Concerning cs: to be a good host, what means to make my guests feeling well and to find hosts with the same attitude

ABOUT ME

I have always prefered to stay in private apartments when travelling. So I can see much better how people live and get to know people from other countries. I have too hosted people, who otherwise could not have payed the journey, and showed them around during some days, what I have really enjoyed.I think especially for younger people, who often have a budget-problem while travelling, it is very important, that they can have a place, where they can stay for free That`s why I have recently joined "CS".
I prefer to host openminded people, who really want to get to know other parts of the world and other people, and who are prepaired to treat other people with respect, honesty and good education, what they can expect from me too.

PHILOSOPHY

To live and to let live

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to be a good host and if posible even a good tourist guide

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mostly very positiv. Only very few guests, which then didn´t even write a reference, treated me as a cost free hostal.
One person, who had reserved a couch at my place and who did not show up and from whome I did not receive a previous cancelation got a negative reference from me and answered with a negative reference in which he called me impacient, not generous and having bad intentions. Later on I found on his profil a reference from another host from Cologne, written some days after he wanted to leave my home. So I suspected that he had reserved more than one couch in the same town and for the same days. I wrote to the other host telling him about my suspect and asking for which days that guest had reserved, but I have not received an answer, which I interprete as an answer too. These reproaches, pronounced by someone, who uses cs only to get a free couch, are absurd for someone, who has offered a free and decent accommmodation and a free tourgide to more than 70 people. It showes that some people answer goodness with rude and respectless maners. I guess a lot of people do only write good references, no matter how selfish and reckless someone behaves, because they are afraid of this kind of reactions. But I shall go on expecting respect and a correct behavior from other people, as well as other people can expect it from me and I think that references must reflect the reality, if not, they are of no use and can not give you the trust in other people, on which cs is based.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

To participate en Cs

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to "teach" people, that Cologne has much more to offer than only a big cathedral.
I recomend to see some of the twelve romanesque churches we have here (romanische-kirchen-koeln.de),the old part of the town near the Rhine, parts of the middle age fortification of the town like the gates of the town, some founds of the roman time, a prussian fort (Fort X.), the more than 100 year old court house at the Reichelsperger Platz, the Wasserturm Hotel ( an hotel in an ancient water reserve) and - never to miss !!! - some brewery houses. Among these you should have a look into the "Früh am Dom" ( frueh.de ). For having lunch or dinner I recomend another brewery house, the Malzmühle (muehlenkoelsch.de, there is even an english version of the side with the menu.)If you want to see a typical, old fashion, german coffeshop, ask for "Café Wahlen", between Rudolfplatz and Zülpicher Platz. If you want to see something out of town, there is a palace in Brühl, between Bonn and Cologne. If you have more time and the weather is fine, I recomend a tour along the river Rhine with the train, for example up to Bingen, to see some lovely little towns and a beautifull landscape or on the other side of the river a trip to Königswinter or to Linz, a little town with a lot of old, half timbered houses. Very beautifull is even a tour by train along the river "Ahr", where you can see a lot of wine cultivation and nice little towns, where you can tast this product. For these tours ask the prices at the ticket sale points for the railway (to Bingen) or public tansport speaking to the personal. There are good prices for groups up to 5 people. It is much cheaper than you may think acording to the site of "Deutsche Bahn" or their automat information !
