About Me

I always find a way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have surfed a couple of times and hosted some people since 2007. I have couchsurfed in Switzerland, France, Spain, India and Italy and hosted people from several countries all around Europe.

I enjoy couchsurfing experiences where people are as they are – sometimes busy with their everyday life, sometimes have more time to get to know you and hang around. I respect both :)

Music, Movies, and Books

BOOKS
My favorite author is Ernst Hemingway. I grew up with "A Farewell to Arms", "The Sun Also Rises", "For Whom the Bells Toll" and "The Old Man and the Sea". Another author who has had a significant impact on me is Antoine Saint-Exupéry with "Little Prince". I'm very fond of this tale.

I've also found the short stories of William Somerset Maugham (in particular "The Moon and the Sixpence") and Anton Checkov full of wit, colourful characters and a messages that haunt you for a longer time.

Also, at the end of high school and in the beginning of college I discovered magical realism. My favorites are Colombian-born Gabriel Garcia Marquez ("One Hundred Years of Solitude", "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "Chronicle of a Death Foretold") and Brasilian-born Paulo Coelho – naturally –, especially with his "The Alchemist", "By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept", "Eleven Minutes" and "The Witch of Portobello".

One of my favorites has also been from time to time Mikhail Bulgakov and "Master and Margarita". In addition, I have enjoyed greatly the books by Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell and Aldous Huxley (especially his "Brave New World").

My dream is to become a novelist myself one day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It is an undertaking that took 6 years to complete. It was in April 2012 when I first visited Santiago de Compostela, the world-famous pilgrimage town in North-Spain. I don't even remember where I heard about it for the first time, but after the trip I decided to walk the way myself one day.

I returned nearly a year later, in summer 2013, when I went hitchhiking to Europe for a couple of weeks in order to make my way to camino de Santiago. I started off in Latvia, continued in Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, France and made it to Spain. However, after walking the camino around 220 km I had to return home.

It took another 3 years, until I got the chance to go back. I returned in summer 2016 with my sister. During the journey that lasted for 33 days I walked nearly 840 km from Jaca to Santiago de Compostela. It was somewhat crazy, but a really enjoyable long hike :)

As we didn't have time to walk the last 120 km from Santiago to Finisterre (also known as "the end of the world") I returned to the camino in summer 2017 with my mother. And last, but not least, I returned also in the summer of 2018, this time by myself, to walk nearly 300 km along the coastal camino from Porto to Santiago.

It has been a unique experience. It made me realize that the world is so much smaller than we tend to think and you can make yourself feel at home practically everywhere. Provided that you know some of the basic languages spoken in Europe and don't bother so much about the everyday comforts you are usually so accostumed to :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories of my travels, how my life has shaped me, what is characteristic to Estonia and Estonians and why I enjoy working as a journalist. Also, in return I can give advice on what to see and where to go in Estonia and when my work schedule permits it, also to be your guide either in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, or also around the country itself. Once you get to know it better, it is a rich country with generous people and wonderful landscapes!
