Overview
About Me
Hi, my name is Silvan and I am 21 years old. I am excited to be a part of the couchsurfing community now.
I would describe myself as an open-minded, motivated, and curious person. Therefore it is no surprise that I love traveling. I am from Munich, Germany and have spent the holidays during my childhood and adolescence traveling through Europe with my parents and twin brother. We did city trips to London, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, or Rome, for example. But we also did cycling tours in the neighboring countries and a lot of hiking. In eleventh grade, I did an internship abroad in Saulxures-sur-Moselotte, France on a farm and cheese factory. It was the first time for me being abroad on my own. It was a positive experience and started the fire in me of wanting to explore the world. After finishing school, I took a gap year to have time to focus on competitive cycling. I learned Spanish to an intermediate level and lived in Tenerife, Spain for three months. Last summer, I travelled in India with some friends which was a great experience and really opened up new perspectives on life. What I enjoy most is talking to interesting people and sharing stories and having a good time together.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to be part of the Couchsurfing community and meet interesting people. I signed up because I will be Solo-Traveling for some time and I think that Couchsurfing is a good way of connecting with local people. Also as a student, I don’t have a lot of money to spend on accommodation. So, Couchsurfing seems to be a perfect fit for me.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like a variety of music. I have played the piano for several years and have played pop, rock, and classical songs. At university, I played in Jazzband. I love going to concerts. I don’t watch too many films but I enjoy going to the cinema and watching a good movie. My favorite actor is Leonardo DiCaprio. I like reading books where I learn something new but unfortunately I don’t take the time for it very often. My favorite author is Karl May.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I took the SAT-Test on Gran Canaria, Spain. I was there on my own and booked an accommodation close to the test center. It was at the side of a mountain and the next supermarket was 20 minutes by car away. The only way to do groceries for me was to take a bus. After a few days, I ran out of food and wanted to take the bus to go to a supermarket. However, it was already afternoon and there were no more buses. So I decided to go to a nearby restaurant. However, it was closed on that day but all the employees were there because they celebrated their bosses birthday. They told me the restaurant was closed and I had already walked a few meters away thinking about sleeping with an empty stomach before someone shouted “Come back!” They had some food left and gave me a meal for free. Just because of kindness. I was very happy and grateful.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love talking about all sorts of topics. From past travel experiences, to current affairs, and philosophical discussions. I am learning English, French, and Spanish. My motto for this year is to make new experiences.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I hope that I can be an enrichment for the host. By spending some time together, I think that everyone can learn something new and get a different perspective. I like cooking and think that eating together is a great way to connect.
