About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Living, loving and learning more!

ABOUT ME

We are a couple, I am 31 years old, a qualified teacher, I love working with young people, with a particular interest in the special educational needs field. I love to curl up with a good book or have a natter with friends over a cup of tea. I enjoy visiting art galleries and making felt.
We like to spend our evenings with friends; cooking dinner together, watching a film or playing board/card games, going to see live music. We love the cinema and going to live comedy shows.
We are currently living in Vancouver, arriving in January 2012 having spent 5 months travelling around Asia, exploring India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand and Taiwan. We have enjoyed meeting local people, trying new food, photographing and blogging about our experiences.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe we are the only ones that can make ourselves happy and that it's up to us to make the most of every opportunity and live as much as we can.

I feel a strong responsibility as a teacher to open up the minds of young people to what they can achieve and to the collective reponsibility they have towards each other and the world around them. It's so important to teach children the joy of learning and the motivation to always further themselves.

I hope I can make a difference to the young people I work with and others by helping to educate people about Autism and how to value each individual for their eccentricities and talents, not to be afraid or judge those people that act outside of the norm. Every individual has a valuable role in society and we should be more open minded to that.

We both live for....
..my family, my friends, all my loved ones.
..to travel and experience new things.
...to work with and help young people, and anyone else I can!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have only just been introduced to CouchSurfing and are excited to meet new people and hopefully have a more authentic experience in each place we visit. Then hopefully when we are 'settled' somewhere we can return the favour.
Since being in Vancouver we have attended several events organised by Couchsurfers, from drinks and brunches to hikes. I have also arranged a couple of events and have organised a regular arts and crafts meet up through CS.
It's a great way to meet people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only stayed on one couch so far, in Portland, and it was a fantastic experience. My host was so warm, friendly and a lot of fun and we hit it off. She has since been to stay with me and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Interests

I enjoy anything creative; drawing, making felt, collage, taking photographs, painting. I also like to blog and try to write a regular blog to help raise awareness about Autism. All at a very amateur level!

I like to get out and about, hiking, wandering the city, exploring by transit. Love to try all the local eateries. Can't get enough Sushi or Pho since moving to Vancouver! I also enjoy browsing thrift stores and garage sales for bargains.

My ideal night is dinner in with friends, good food, coversation, playing games and lots of laughing..oh and a gin and tonic ;-)

We're looking forward to getting on the mountain for our first full season of skiing, and hopefully I can progress from beginner slopes! My other passion is pole-dancing (think gymnastics not strip clubs!) and I have just purchased my own pole which I am very excited about and plan to be spending a lot of time upside down!
