Overview
About Me
Once a single mom, now an empty-nester (over-used but appropriate term) and realizing how strange it is to go from having roommates in my 20s to being mom in my 30s and 40s and now here I am in my 50s and living alone for the first time. I've decided that its more fun with people around.
I'm a fairly easy-going person. A bit unconventional, but settled. I live with my fluffy cat Oliver who is indoor / outdoor. I teach at a nearby elementary school and love to get out and about Hood River and the Gorge in my spare time. Hiking, biking, SUPing, are my favorites. I have memberships at a couple local wineries and I llove to show people around.
Keep in mind when making a request to stay that I do live 15 min. south of downtown Hood River.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have an extra bedroom. Why not use it and meet interesting people along the way? I like the concept of sharing.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy listening to most genres, especially live music performed by talented musicians. Rather than listen to "classic rock" like many in my generation do, I prefer to listen to newer pop music and explore original music by artists nearby. Recent favorite is Shook Twins.
There are so many good books and movies - it's hard to pick just a few to list. Some favorite authors/poets are Barbara Kingsolver, Haruki Murakami, Gabriel Marcia Marquez, Rumi, Mary Oliver...
I like movies that make me think about the possible effects of new technology on society like Her and an old one was Multiplicity (cloning). Other favorite themes are time and space.. Groundhog Day is an old favorite and something newer that was fairly well done ... Interstellar.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hmmmm - I don't seem to have any single defining moments.
Raising a child on my own was an amazing adventure of courage, patience, sacrifice, and love.
As a miitary brat, I had the fortune of living in several different cultural regions of the U.S. and was always the new kid in town. I always appreciated when someone reached out and showed me around :-)
In the summer of 2016 I went on my first solo multi-country European vacation. It was an absolutely amazing adventure.
Teach, Learn, Share
If you visit and are interested in my jewelry studio - I am happy to share. If you happen to visit on a night when I have marimba class or band practice - you are welcome to come and listen.
