About Me

*PLEASE READ*

Before you request to stay, please be aware that my girlfriend Matilda and I live with certain rules: we have a meat-free and, as far as possible, a single-use plastic-free household (e.g. no plastic water bottles etc.). Please try and limit the amount of waste you bring into the house - we do have a compost bin in the garden for all the food scraps :) we also save water as much as possible (e.g. don't run the tap while brushing your teeth). Lastly, we do love to talk about this stuff and share our experiences, so perhaps we can all learn things from each other :) we are only willing to host people who are able to commit to and respect these rules - the best way to do that is to let me know when you message me.

CURRENT MISSION

To live and learn through experience, people and the written word

ABOUT ME

Intensively curious about different people, different places and different cultures.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is a constant process of learning and unlearning

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Friends of mine have couch surfed before and absolutely loved it - I just think it is a such a unique way to meet people and really truly discover a new place or a new culture. A local's guide will triumph over a tourist's guide 10 times out of 10, because the best way to truly learn and understand new cultures is to have conversations with those that live it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed in Namibia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan on my Cape-Cairo public transport trip in 2014. I also couchsurfed in Turkey in 2016, and Lebanon and Jordan in 2017, and New Zealand in 2018. I started hosting in Brisbane in October 2018, with my girlfriend Matilda.

Interests

People and writing make up my two main interests. Otherwise: exploring new unknown places, getting lost, reading, hiking, mountain running, politics, well-formulated opinions, a cold beer at the end of a long day with some good company and good conservation.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Playing football with the local kids in the snowy mountains of Lesotho - incredible experience; I also did a Cape-Cairo public transport trip, all the way up the East coast of Africa which was amazing and eye-opening; volunteered in Greece and Turkey in 2016 to try and help alleviate the humanitarian crisis by focusing on working with grassroots organisations serving and empowering refugees; self-sufficient 30-day hike through south-west Turkey; climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro with my Pops and brother in 2017.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm open to anything and everything that is specific to the place and the culture that I am in.

I would like to share life experiences and philosophies.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation and, though I'm not much of a cook, I try hard and am always happy to help out :)
