About Me

I'm a young adult trying to travel the world before all the responsibilities of "real life" come crashing down onto me.
I was lucky enough to go on holiday to the Canarian Islands as well as Italy, Greece and Portugal pretty much every year with my parents, but my desire to visit all the beautiful places and my joy of flying around the world didn't really start until my 10th year in high-school, to be fair, I was quite afraid of airplanes before that time.
It all came down to a conversation I overheard in my Physics class where a friend of mine mentioned "New Zealand" as a possible destination for a year abroad. It wasn't even going away, what motivated me, but going to this amazing place called New Zealand, far away and only really part of fairy tales (obviously exaggerated). When I got onto the 30 hour flight all my anxiety was gone and I started loving to fly and to travel, never stopped since.
Consequently it was given that I would go somewhere else before attending university, and Australia was chosen. Here I am, seeing places that 14-year old me would have never dreamed of sitting in front of his computer. Don't get me wrong, I still do, but now I actually value the time spent exploring, especially in places as far away from home as possible.

Alright, too much nostalgia, gotta go on about myself: I am a German student who just finished high-school. I am quite enthusiastic about team-handball (which many people over here in Australia and especially in New Zealand do not know, what a shame...), played it since I was 7 years old. As you can imagine, sport is a huge part of my life, which is why I go for a run or do some exercise at home reasonably regularly (unfortunately not at all regularly enough at the moment). Other than that I very much enjoy video games and reading, as long as the story (or, for video games, any other motivation, e.g. improving my skill) is catching my attention.
I am pretty geeky concerning Maths and am pretty much 100% sure that Maths is going to be my subject of choice for university. It's just my thing!
Since I have taken photography classes over in NZ for a while, it just became a big part of my life; I love to simply go outside and play around with my sister's DSLR (since I hadn't had the money to buy one myself yet...). I know my way around photography at least a reasonable amount, mostly play around with the aperture but also love using long-time exposure to create an entirely different kind of photograph.
Other than that I learned to simply love the English language (sometimes even more so than German...) and keep thinking in English, no matter where I am. So yes, if you would like to speak in English, I am more than happy to do so, no matter what language would be your best.

Any other enquiries about my personality can be answered via messages, I should have stopped this section 20 sentences ago.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Part of this question has already been answered in the About Me section: I just love travelling, visiting places I have never seen before, simply enjoying the beautiful world we live in.
This doesn't explain why I'm on Courchsurfing in particular though: I have been living in a few different circumstances already and met amazing people all along the way. Even though it is hard to leave behind new friends you made, I really want to enjoy time with people of my mindset, who just love meeting different individuals from all over the world. How much better can a visit to any city in any country of this world be, if you're shown around by a friendly local?

Interests

Since the "About Me" section is really long, I'll just add a summary over here:
- Team-Handball
- sport in general (especially including Badminton and Ballroom-Dancing)
- Video Games
- Reading
- Mathematics, Physics, IT, philosphical talks about the history of the universe... anything geeky pretty much

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Anything on radio, I don't often listen to specific music. If I do, it'd be German artists Wise Guys and Aligatoah (I know, they are completely different genres)
Movies: Anything Science-Fictiony, e.g. Star Wars and Doctor Who (you can't say geeky without including Doctor Who, can you?), but also many other genres, comedy, romantic comedy, Fantasy (Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit), despite general opinion movies of Nicolas Cage, Liam Neeson (yes, I also talk about the Taken-Series)
Books: Most certainly the Lightbringer Series by Brent Weeks, but just recently also Cloud Atlas (it was a book before the movie came out, which I also just found out...) by David Mitchell... Generally speaking whichever book I happen to read at the moment. Sometimes it can be the Lonely Planet of the place I am visiting.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Most definitely Bungy-Jumping in Queenstown, New Zealand, 134m ground rush.
Also, Skydiving in Mission Beach, Queenstown, Australia, 12000 feet of relaxed freefall!
Lastly, hitchhiking my way from Melbourne to Sydney in just 2.5 days, craziest but honestly somewhat most amazing stuff I've ever done. No more than a tent, stuff to live from and a destination, life gets pretty interesting and you get to know all kinds of different people. There is an art to hitchhiking which you really have to learn in order to be most successful.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, philosphical talks about pretty much anything, my love for science. I am happy to talk about anything, especially if we have different opinions on the matter, in order to understand the other side!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In
