Plutôt adepte des voyages lents. J’aime bien les trains et les randonnées à vélo. J’ai fait beaucoup de Couchsurfing comme ça, et j’ai trouvé que c’était un bon moyen de provoquer l’inattendu. Je suis constamment tiraillé entre mon envie de voyager à l’instinct sans rien prévoir et une certaine expérience du fait que c’est plus facile de trouver des couchsurfers quand on s’y prend un peu à l’avance.

Je cherche principalement à voyager en faisant le moins de dégâts possible. Ça veut dire que j’irai peut-être un jour en Amérique ou en Australie, mais seulement si j’ai déjà épuisé toutes les autres possibilités de voyage plus proches et moins polluantes. Donc peut-être d’ici quelques siècles.

Cependant, je comprends parfaitement qu’on puisse vouloir traverser un océan pour découvrir une autre culture. Mais ça me met mal à l’aise d’héberger des gens qui font dix heures d’avion pour visiter la tour Eiffel et Disneyland, donc vous comprendrez que si vous avez les moyens de vous payer ce luxe, vous avez également les moyens de vous payer un hôtel. Pour toute demande d’hébergement, vous aurez donc la bonté de préciser que vous ne venez pas uniquement pour visiter Disneyland.

On the slow side of traveling. I like trains and biking trips. I couchsurfed quite a lot like this and found that it’s a good way to meet the unexpected. Constantly torn between my desire to travel by instinct without planning anything and my experience that it’s way easier to meet couchsurfers with a tiny bit of planning.

I seek to travel the least harmful way possible. Which means I might one day visit Australia or America, but only if I exhausted all the other travel possibilities that are closer to me and cause less pollution. Which won’t happen before at least a few centuries.

That being said, I perfectly understand that one might want to cross an ocean to discover another culture. But hosting people who fly to Paris for ten hours just to visit the Eiffel tower and Disneyland causes me discomfort. I’m sure you will understand that if you can afford such luxury, you can also afford a hotel. Which is why, if you intend to send me a hosting request, I kindly ask you to mention that you’re not coming solely for Disneyland.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Pendant un voyage, il arrive parfois que je réalise d’un seul coup que je ne connais personne autour de moi depuis plus d’une demi-journée, et que pourtant, malgré tout, je me sens en confiance, avec une impression d’être au bout du monde qui donne à l’instant présent une saveur toute particulière. Ce site m’a donné quelques occasions de rencontrer de tels moments, qui restent gravés à tout jamais.

When traveling, occasionnally, I might suddenly realise that I haven’t known anyone around me for more that half a day, and, despite that, I feel comfortable, that I can trust them, with an impression of being really far from home that gives a very particular relish to the present moment. This site gave me a few occasions to meet such moments, and they have been etched into my memory ever since.

Interests

La première chose que je regarde quand j’arrive dans une ville, c’est son plan détaillé, et le plan de son réseau de transports, s’il existe. J’ai une fascination inexplicable pour les cartes. Accessoirement ça me permet d’être capable de m’orienter très rapidement dans un nouvel endroit.

J’adore aller à des concerts, quelque soit le genre musical. J’aime beaucoup la musique ancienne, classique, traditionnelle, pop, metal, électronique… la seule chose qui peut me démotiver c’est si une star de trop grande envergure joue, ça a tendance à attirer des foules et des comportements qui me font passer un mauvais moment.

The first thing I do when coming to a city is looking at the map, and the map of the transportation network, if it exists. I have an unexplicable fascination for maps. Also it enables me to quickly find my bearings in a new place.

I love going to concerts, whatever the musical genre. I especially like ancient, classical, traditionnal, pop, metal or electronic music… the only thing that could stop me is if a big star is performing, because this usually brings huge crowds and annoying behaviours that spoil the moment for me.
