Overview
About Me
I guess I first need to explicitly clarify that I use CS to enrich my life, not as a dating app. CS builds new social relations, and in rare cases I guess they might turn out to be romantic. But that has never been a relevant issue in any of my previous couchsurfing experiences.
Social, but introverted. Sometimes really quiet, sometimes really passionate. But I try to be as generous as I can.
Flexitarian.
I try not to judge people on who they are, but I do appreciate being mindful of the wider impact of our actions and choices.
I studied a lot of social sciences: international politics, criminology (thus sociology, psychology, anthropology, law,...).
I like to do martial arts and endurance sports, but I'm shit at both.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I started using it to save accommodation costs during the months I spent in Aarhus (Denmark) in the winter of 2013.
I also used it while backpacking in the middle east in the autumn of 2014. It made for a great time in Aqaba, Wadi Rum, Petra, Amman and Bethlehem.
In my trip to Iran in early 2016 I made a lot of great CS friends as well.
I also used it while on a short trip to Gdynia.
I'm always up to share a tea, a beer, a walk, a bike, an adventure,... That much I can guarantee. Hosting is probably possible, if you ask nicely ;) I'm living with three other people though, so I can't decide on my own.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: progressive rock, classical music, electronic, techno, some good old 90s stuff,...
I've been writing my own book since roughly 2015, although I've been developing the earliest ideas into loose notes ever since 2004.
Philosophy for life: Marcus Aurelius' Meditations
Persian poetry (Saadi, Hafez),...
Fiction: Gulliver's Travels, Tolstoy, Bukowski, would also love to read to Audrey Maturin series, GoT, Fight Club, Family Guy, Green Wing, Rick & Morty,...
Non-fiction: history from 1800s to present day (Paul Kennedy, Christopher Clark,...). Psychology (Kazimierz Dabrowski).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I like endurance sports events like triathlons.
Other crazy or less crazy things I did include:
An arctic expedition
Climbing volcano in Guatemala
Sailing on tall ships for a month (2013) and two months (2014)
Living in Denmark (gotta love the Danes!)
Sleeping in weird places including but not limited to: out in the open in the Arab desert, a shipping container, a shower, a vinyard, a beach, a deserted basement, and the back of a truck.
Hitchhiking from Finland to the Canary Islands
Volunteering in Palestinian refugee camp
Experiencing Iranian hospitality & hitchhiking a garbage truck.
...
Teach, Learn, Share
What could I teach you? Well, I speak 5 languages (in some way or another)...
I'm always up for doing sports or other activities that you like.
For the more serious people, I like to discuss all aspects of life.
