About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Not to fall back into lazy habits of gaming and TV. Done enough surfing on my own couch!

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm a beardy geeky viking-a-like with a modicum of wit and a sense of humour.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't knock it till you've tried it.
Respect the opinions of others. Even if they're wrong.
Don't leave it toooo long, life can be fleeting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't just yet!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Well, back in ye olden days before I think this site existed - yup, checked, only a year or two before - in my shared house in uni I hosted a couple of times. Back then of course it all had to be arranged manually, over ICQ I think it was - anyone remember that?!

A pair of backpacking students from Germany and a lone lady from Turkey slipped briefly into and out of my uni house and life. But not my memory! Always fun to meet new people.

Interests

Love a good wandering conversation or a energetic debate, improved greatly by a very slowly drunk pint, preferably in a pub on a river or canal. Failing that, a log burning stove? Luckily I moved somewhere literally spitting distance from one that has both!

Music, Movies, and Books

Hollywood cheesy action so long as it has a plot, thinky epics if I can be bothered, kooky foreign language things too (loved most south korean films I've seen, also some great stuff from scandinavia and germany). Random comedy stuff too. Hell, I'll watch anything once :)

Rock, metal and folk, from 60s-present day. Oh, and occasionally proggy electro from the 70s, Jean Michelle Jarre etc.

Bernard Cornwell, Tom Clancy, Iain Banks, kooky weird ones, some classics. Everyone I seem to like likes Terry Pratchett too though I've never gotten around to reading any. Might help sum me up more though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ugh, amazing? Not sure anything really counts as amazing. Need to do more amazing things!

Thanks for setting the bar so high couchsurfing.org! :/

Teach, Learn, Share

Apparently I have quite a cool British'y accent and vocabulary or so a German friend tells me, that might rub off a bit if that interests you. Or it might just annoy you as i spout slightly unusual words at unfairly high speed!

Then there's the geek stuff, and I might even be heading towards actually teaching computing in my current workplace. Fairly broad spectrum of geek talent there, I know a bit about a lot! More on the sysadmin/hardware/virtualization side than coding.

And I'm also actually a qualified mechanic, although I wouldn't get me to fix your car. Terrible at the greasy bits! Tad of a land rover fan too, though nothing extensive.
