About Me

Hey! My name is Simone, and I come from a rural area on the west coast of Canada. Currently living in Vancouver, pretending to be urban. Right now I'm studying Geography (with a focus on environment and sustainability) and First Nations Indigenous Studies at UBC.

A couple years ago I did a 7 month trip during my gap year, where I basically went east and kept going until I came back around to Vancouver. Met a lot of very cool people—many of them through couchsurfing—saw some amazing places, and learned a whole lot.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love travelling because I love to learn about other places and see how other people experience the world in different contexts. I think couchsurfing is pretty perfect for that—a very cool way to connect with people in new places.

I've had a lot of people who've taken me around their cities, taught me a lot about life there that I might not have otherwise learned, and had generally made me feel more comfortable during my stay. That's something I want to pay forwards! I'm not in a position to host anyone right now, but I'd be happy to hang out, show people Vancouver, share a meal.

Interests

I love learning about different cultures, histories, and lore, and languages. Hearing about other people's passions and interest is always a pleasure. My interests also include global affairs, social equality, decolonization and environmentalism. Cooking and baking are some of my favourite things, and sharing good food and good conversation even more so!

Music, Movies, and Books

I can discuss books, movies or music for hours! I can't say I have a favourite anything as there are a lot of genres I enjoy. I have a deep love of folk music, but I'm always open to listening to new artists.

For books or movies I often read or watch sci-fi, fantasy, slice of life, or historical fiction or non-fiction. Love a good documentary. Recently I've been watching 'the good place' and 'the expanse', and have been reading 'the marrow thieves' and 'the tombs of atuan'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Solo travelled for 6 months.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have some English tutoring experience, and if it's wanted I'm happy to give some tips if you're learning the language.

I come from a beautiful area rich in culture and history and have travelled across much Canada several times, so if you're interested in visiting Canada, I should also be able to give you some insight into certain areas.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hopefully a good laugh :) aside from that, food and some fun stories!
